AllaTanTou Dance-Percussion Island Retreat - Soli

SarahRating, 5 stars86 months ago
We booked Alla Tantu on Air BnB for ~ 400,000 a night (including booking fee). When we got to the pier a man named Boubacar sold us the tickets to the island. If you book with a resort first make sure to contact the resort and ask if they have boats because it turned out the guys from Alla Tantu we’re looking for us in Conakry when the boat syndicate sold us our tickets. This caused a major problem when we got there because we couldn’t get into our room without the guys and the syndicate was angry that we wanted them to bring us back to Conakry after he had convinced us to book return tickets under the guise of there not being transportation off the island. The guys at Alla Tantu were super helpful and friendly and took us around on hikes and showed us the beaches. They brought us food and beer to our spot on the beach, a service you would probably pay for during the busy season but since it was quiet and we chatted them up quite a bit they didn’t ask for money. On the beach there are a few English speaking men from Sierra Leon and Senegal selling pagne and jewelry, they start off hassling a bit to sell their goods but really they are looking for a good chat in English and then they will leave you alone. Breakfast of omelettes is included at Alla Tantu but lunch and dinner are not. I recommend bringing something non perishable to eat for lunch and ask the guys to make you a nice dinner. The first night we got a huge plate of fish and lobster for 250,000 and the second night we asked them for a smaller plate for 150,000. The second plate ended up having more lobster, but they will negotiate on price and cater to your needs. Also note the website says there is electricity but it’s not always guaranteed and it costs money to run the generator. Bring your own external battery or solar panel to charge small electronics and leave the big stuff in Conakry. When we went it was Ramadan so there were not many people but when it’s busy they say there are lots of musicians and dances.
