What you'll do

In our place of peace "Temazcal y Masajes Pixan" we are a team of people preserving our culture, everyone is welcome to our space
With the support of Nayel and Yaollin (the man who guides the temazcal), we start welcoming people, I explain the Temazcal process, that is a traditional Mexican steam bath, which originated with pre-Hispanic Indigenous peoples, Is used as part of a curative ceremony thought to purify the body and balance mind, body and spirit.

With sahumerio, copal and incense I make a energetic cleaning (preparation before entering the Temazcal). Afterwards, we enter at the Temazcal and we sit around the navel. Then the previously heated volcanic stones, which emit steam, emerge. The place becomes little warm, While the body rids itself of toxins through sweating, the spirit is renewed through ritual. And we will learn the importance of the words, the silence and the strength of the songs, making relaxing but also fun dynamics.
When we finish we go out and shower in the garden with a rustic watering can, the water purifies our body.
After I offer abundant and varied fresh fruits and natural fruit waters gift from our Mother Earth.

Besides promoting physical well-being and healing, the Temazcal is also a ritual and spiritual practice in which traditional healing methods are used to encourage reflection and introspection. The temazcal is thought to represent the womb and people coming out of the bath are, in a symbolic sense, re-born.
Come and enjoy a unique experience!

I am Rene Avila, I was a naval pilot, I come from a family of Mayan origin and now I dedicate myself to give physical and spiritual healing through the traditional medicine of our ancestors through the Temazcal (bath house), for 2 years. I live in a bungalow, in a local and very quiet neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. For me it is a pleasure to serve and show my Mayan culture through this experience. I love teaching others the use of medicinal plants, because my father taught me when I was a child. Therefore, I made it part of my life and my home. My family and I serve with love, my wife gives massages and I give Temazcal therapy and so we work together at home.

Where you'll be

I do the Temazcal Ceremony in a beautiful garden of my house (bungalow), a beautiful place that I built when I learned a little carpentry. For me it is a special place! I am located within the city (local area), 10 minutes from the tourist area and only two streets from the Sea. Calle 92 norte between 10 and 15 av.

This was one of the most Awesome Experiences my husband and I have had. Our Spiritual Guide was very knowledgeable and taught us about our past culture. After our time in the Temezcal, they share with us some delicious water, fruit, and this GREAT GUACAMOLE with chips. I personally had a Massage given to my by Evelyn. She has great technics and Hands. I left there very Relaxed and don’t regret attending this Wonderful Ritual…

Una experiencia increíble que recomiendo a todos que quieren sanar o descubrir una ceremonia ancestral. Es muy caliente adentro pero la narración y los cantos hacen la experiencia mágica. Muchas gracias Jonathan, Suzanna y Tere !

I am grateful for the experience of the temazcal and being a witness to this special and ancient tradition. I also highly recommend getting a massage and the guacamole is unforgettable!

I totally recommend this experience! It was amazing.... we got a detailed explanation about everything and our questions were answered. The experience was magical, I am sad we have to leave Playa today, otherwise I would book it again. If you have a chance book a massage before the ceremony, so relaxing and the best preparation. One in a lifetime experience, you will not regret it!!!

Excellent experience! I was very nervous and wasn't sure what to expect, but it put me in a great headspace. It was a little difficult (but exactly how difficult I wanted!) which made me feel like I accomplished something. The snacks afterwards were very appreciated and the hosts were lovely. Everything felt very safe. I would suggest not having any other plans for the evening after you do the ceremony - use the time to reflect :)

This experience was pretty intense! But the hosts did a great job at making me feel comfortable. I definitely enjoyed it and appreciated the delicious juices, fruits, and guacamole that was provided at the end. Thank you so much!
