What you'll do

Get an intimate look into the history of apartheid in South Africa through this online history experience. Born and raised in District 6, I have a unique perspective on this period of history and I'll weave those stories into this experience. Using digital photographs, I’ll virtually take you to explore Cape Town's attractions, heritage sites and architectural wonders. We'll discuss their significance and the roles these sites have played in shaping the city’s history. We'll discuss District 6, where forced removals decimated the area to pave the way for gentrification. You will hear stories of racial segregation, discrimination and the marginalization of the most vulnerable and how the Apartheid system left its mark on the people and this city. Given this backdrop, I will also share with you how the human spirit can triumph against all odds! But most of all, I want to focus on finding our common humanity as opposed to our differences. Come on this journey with me!
