Come cook with us, smile with us, and help the local community!

2.30pm: Prep & Cooking
3.30pm: IF all the prep is done earlier, you may have drink at the restaurant downstairs
4.00pm: Sharing session about us & the urban poor issue

Phase 2: Serving at Jalan Panggung
5.00pm: Move to Jalan Panggung

I am an Airbnb host and one of the coordinator for this soup kitchen. Volunteered since 2008 with few humanitarian relief NGO. Soup kitchen is a way for me to be thankful with what I have, plus helping to raise awareness about bad policies on urban poor in Malaysia.

You may be hosted by me, or another coordinator, Quratul

This was a striking and meaningful experience of the other side of KL, away from the tourist glamour. It was very special to share with the team, and I felt that they took good care of me, explained a lot, and ensured that I was connected to every part of the experience.

This event was some of the best things I've ever done! I'd been to Malaysia for a while when I did this experience and I learnt more here about the country than all the previous weeks. The organizers were very willing to answer my many questions about poor people's situation here and they do an amazing service for them! You can see how engaged the organizers are and their care for their community. By talking to the locals attending I got insight into Malaysia which I otherwise never would have gotten. Definitely recommend voulenteering here if you want to help people and at the same time understand social justice issues in Malaysia.

I don't typically leave reviews but my experience with Farhan and Dapur Jalanan was so wonderful that I had to leave one :]. The experience was as described. You help prepare meals and give them out at their distribution center to local urban poor. After the distribution of food, Farhan takes you on a small tour of the area and talks about its historical significance and how it's tied to the work that they do. Farhan and the rest of the volunteers at Dapur Jalanan made me feel welcomed from the moment I arrived. Most of the volunteers that come are local Malaysians ranging form the ages of approximately 17-30. I would say this is one of those experiences that the more effort you make to talk with the locals the more positive your experience will be. If you're looking to do something positive and productive while meeting local Malaysians, I highly recommend this experience. I loved it so much I came back the following week :) Thanks again to Farhan and everyone at Dapur Jalanan!

The experience was totally worth a try. We helped cooking a traditional meal and helped distributing the food & drinks to people in need. All the Volunteers are super friendly and talkative, great to get in touch with locals and hear about their stories! We enjoyed every minute and are very thankful that people like this exist here in Kuala Lumpur: faith in humanity is restored!

I had a lot of communication with Farhan, who seems extremely friendly and committed. Unfortunately, because of personal issues I was not able to attend the experience, but I’m looking forward to attend the next one, and make a proper review on its regards.
