What you'll do
Experience the restorative power of nature and art while you virtually travel to Japan and immerse yourself in the Zen garden at Konchi-in.
From the comforts of your home, log onto ZOOM and occupy one of Kyoto's magical and sacred spaces created hundreds of years ago by Zen monks, artists, and nobles. As we ‘stroll’ through the garden you will be provided in-depth explanations and insights into the world of Japanese gardens that you would most likely never hear about otherwise.
Through the sharing of photos, diagrams, artistically crafted videos, and my commentary- the temple grounds will be brought to life in ways that you never thought could be possible through online communication. Our time together will feel less like an online tour and more like a meaningful experience considering Japanese design, philosophy and history while virtually exploring a Zen garden of unparalleled beauty.
As this is very much an interactive experience, throughout our time together I will encourage you to ask any questions you may have on the subject matter we dive into, about traveling/ living in Japan, what it is like working in a traditional Japanese garden company, or anything else that springs to mind.

Your host
Andrew
Hello, I am a landscape designer/ builder living in Kyoto, Japan for the last 10 years. I have been hosting the highly rated outdoor version of "Zen Garden, Zen Mind" for the last two years.
Drawing on my 11 years of experience as a landscape designer in the U. S. A. , 5 years working in the traditional garden industry in Kyoto, and my self-studies in Eastern philosophy since as long as I can remember, I am able to provide experiences for my guests that are unique and from the heart.
As the only foreigner to graduate from the Kyoto Japanese Garden Association Cooperative Training Program, I have gained insights to Japanese culture and gardens that few outsiders have had access to.

"We will virtually be in Kyoto, Japan, walking the grounds of Konchi-in, part of the Nanzen-ji Zen monastery. This temple has several distinct spaces that we will explore, including: an entrance garden, a pond garden, a moss forest, a Shinto shrine, the founders hall and cemetery, and main prayer hall and garden. You will have a chance to experience the highest level gardens, architecture, statuary, and paintings that Kyoto has to offer."
