What you'll do

Treat yourself to a creative textile workshop combining Batik and Mud Cloth! Mud cloth – also called ‘bogolan’ – is one of Africa’s most unusual and unique textiles. The usual pattern of geometric lines and dots, in high contrast of black and white, or any color of your choice is the look. In this 2.5 hour workshop, we will be designing and creating the mud cloth ‘look’ through wax-resist (batiking) and dyeing technique (dye bath.) We won't be digging real mud (thankfully!) but you will learn to use hot wax to design mud cloth inspired pattern on a cloth and produce one of kind fabric piece that's authentically yours. You will use and explore the world of batik and Mali mud cloth using traditional batik tjanting tools in my studio that are from Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. You will also learn the steps in textile dyeing in this creative class. Enjoy your travel, explore traditional textile art and create beautiful Miami keepsakes combining Malaysia and Mali culture in one!
