What you'll do
We’ll begin our journey where ill collect you from your accommodation and drive from the UNESCO City of Edinburgh into the Central Highlands. En route we'll stop at the quaint village of Callander. Here we will enjoy our morning coffee at the village artisan bakery where you also have an opportunity to buy your lunch. We’ll climb the mighty Tarmachan Ridge. This is a Scottish mountain, or as we say ‘Munro’, standing 3425 feet tall. During our 5-6 hour hike I’ll share stories illustrating this prehistoric ice age landscape and teach you how to navigate our journey using an OS map. When at the summit, we’ll enjoy a customary nip of Whisky from Scotland’s smallest distillery. This hard to find whisky perfectly embodies the flavours of the local land. I’ll share with you what makes our whisky so unique and we’ll discuss the defining characteristics, from Speyside to the Isles. On our return journey to Edinburgh, we’ll stop into a quintessential 18th century highland pub to satisfy our hunger with a hearty meal and home brewed ales around an open fire. After dinner, we'll head home to Edinburgh. I'll collect you from and return you to your accommodation in Edinburgh by private car.

Watch here - my experience filmed by Airbnb and Vice! https://mymicrogap.vice.com/killin/traversing-tarmachan-ridge https://www.instagram.com/fatbearbiking/ I’m a true Scotsman, and have been travelling the world for the past 15 years. Although Scotland holds my heart, I’ve had the pleasure of walking the hills and climbing the landscapes of Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, India, Nepal and Europe. My experience, knowledge and capacity for exploration is vast, from trekking in the Andes to scaling the Himalayas. I’m also a landscape and portrait photographer.

Where you'll be
We’ll begin our expedition upon arriving at the Tarmachan Ridge, an outstanding ridge close to my heart and heritage. These hills are some of the oldest landscapes in the world. Alternatively, depending on weather, we will go to the heart of the Trossachs and climb Ben A’an, a corbett accessible in all weather conditions. Following our hike we’ll stop at one of my local favourite pubs nestled in amongst the hills.
