What you'll do

Join me on a leisurely 4-mile* walk through the beautiful Sussex countryside, vineyards and an ancient hollow way following in the footsteps of Romans, commoners and a king fleeing for his life! (*3 or 5-mile routes are available if booked as a private group. ) We'll start our walk in a village just a ten-minute drive (20-minute by bus) north of Chichester, passing through vineyards, farmland and a beautiful tunnel of trees. After a short walk uphill, we'll see the restored windmill built in 1740 and have time to admire the 360° views of the Sussex countryside. The Isle of Wight can be seen from here on a clear day. Learn about Boxgrove Man, the oldest human remains ever found in England, a Neolithic settlement and see WWII radio direction-finding structures. Depending on the time of year we may also see butterflies including Marbled White, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Meadow brown and Gatekeeper. While lunch is not included, it is available after our walk from a local pub serving great food made from locally sourced ingredients. Chichester is the nearest railway station. There is a regular bus service from there to the meeting point. Just ask if you'd like to know more. This walk can also be combined with a 2nd walk with a pub lunch in between (min 2 people) https://www.airbnb.co.uk/experiences/800074 but please contact me before

I've lived in West Sussex all my life and love sharing the beautiful countryside and the secrets hidden along these sometimes hard to find footpaths. I've researched the area, speaking to locals and local historians to learn more about the layers of history hidden here, reaching back over 500,000 years. I've also a great interest in the animals and plants found in the South Downs where you'll find Halnaker. Did you know rhinoceros once roamed here? Join my walk to find out how we know!
