What you'll do
Join me on a leisurely 4.5-mile walk through the beautiful Sussex countryside, through vineyards, corn fields and along a beautiful tunnel of trees. We'll stop by the vineyard's tasting room where you'll be able to sample a glass of their wine (included in the price, over 18s only, id required) Heading on through the fields, we'll learn about Boxgrove Man, the oldest human remains ever found in England and walk along part of an old Roman road, passing through an ancient hollow way that forms a beautiful tree tunnel. I'll also tell you about the now lost Sussex dialect and some local folktales about fairies, dragons and a giant. After a short uphill walk, we'll see the restored windmill built in 1740 & admire the 360° views across the Sussex countryside. The Isle of Wight can be seen from here on a clear day. Depending on the time of year we may also see a number of different butterflies including Marbled White, Common Blue, Red Admiral, Meadow brown & Gatekeeper. Birds including buzzards and skylarks are also common sights. If we're very lucky we may spot a deer. While lunch is not included, it is available after our walk from a local pub serving great food made from locally sourced produce (booking on a Sunday recommended).
Having lived in Sussex all my life, I love sharing the beautiful countryside and the secrets hidden along these sometimes hard to find footpaths. I've researched the area, speaking to locals and local historians to learn more about the layers of history hidden here, reaching back over 500,000 years. Did you know rhinoceros once roamed here? Join my walk to find out how we know! I've also enjoyed learning about the local wines and I'm looking forward to sharing all this with you. For reviews, please see my 'Tree tunnel walk to a Sussex Windmill' which follows the same route but excludes the stop at the vineyard for a drink.

We'll walk through fields, along an ancient hollow way through a magical tunnel of trees and uphill a short way to the restored windmill and admire the 360° views.
