What you'll do

We'll sit down and get right into brewing and drinking a series of different Chinese teas, going through a few different types to compare and contrast. I have many teas on hand from all different areas, types, and ages, and whether you are new to tea or a seasoned puer drinker, I will tailor the teas we drink to your interest, tastes, and requests. You're free to ask questions, about tea or about anything. Usually I find the tea becomes secondary at some point to just general conversation about all kinds of strange topics. I will also provide some tips for finding good teas, as well as give you a chance to practice brewing tea yourself. You'll leave with equipped with a good set of knowledge and skills to approach your own tea journey.

Ayden

I own and run a tea shop, KUURA, in North Melbourne, as well as online. I'm a long time drinker of Chinese teas , especially puer tea. I travel twice a year to southern Yunnan for the tea season and spend time in the mountains collecting tea materials myself to press into cakes. I also have a keen interest in design, ceramics, and aesthetics, and my goal is to provide a uniquely simple and open approach to Chinese tea, something that many people cloud with extraneous details or cultural baggage. Tea at its heart is a simple thing; soak leaves in hot water, and enjoy drinking them. A chance in the hectic pace of modern life to slow down a little bit and forget your troubles. I try to keep it unpretentious and uncomplicated. I also won the Australian Tea Brewing championship in 2017!

What's included

Where you'll be

This will take place in my tea studio in North Melbourne, which is full of tea, teaware, and odd bits and pieces from my travels. It's well set up to relax and drink tea for several hours. It's during normal opening hours, so there may be other guests in an about the store. The $5 is what I normally charge for a walk-in tasting.
