Where you’ll be

Sti Fadma, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco

The village of Amlougui is situated at around 1400m above sea level in the Ourika Valley, about 60 km south-east of Marrakesh, at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains. The last part of the road to the village can be a little rough in parts, and the short final section of the journey can only be made on foot.
The picturesque village that awaits you at the end of your journey makes it well worth the effort and the small distance you need to walk to get there ensures that Amlougui maintains it’s authentic atmosphere.
On your arrival at Amlougui you will find a small, traditional Berber village consisting of about 100 houses clinging to the side of the valley. The river, which meanders through the valley, provides water to the many fruit trees, such as apple, cherry, walnut and quince. These trees provide food and income for the villagers.
The village houses are built in traditional Berber style, and accommodate all types of animals, such as cows, goats and chickens on the ground floor whilst the families live above. The village has a mosque, a kindergarten and a primary school, and a recent addition is the women’s cooperative.
The panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains from the household terraces are stunning and Amlougui provides an excellent base from which to explore the many local trekking routes which often include visits to scenic streams and waterfalls. We recommend you book your trekking tour on arrival with a local trekking guide (available at the guest house), so that you can discuss terrain, difficulty, weather etc.
