The Shady Rest Cottage in historic McCloud

The Shady Rest is an original Mill house built in 1924 for workers at the McCloud Mill. We have tried to keep the rustic charm of the home with the original wood floors and countertops, farmhouse sink, and a clawfoot tub. There is a large fenced yard and a cozy front porch to enjoy the mountain air. It is located at the end of a quiet street .8 miles from HooHoo Park and 1.4 miles from Dance Country or the McCloud Hotel. A short drive gets you to the Ski Park, McCloud Falls, hiking and fishing.

This is a cozy, ground level studio flat, in a newer building. The front patio is unique to the Studio guests. Parking in front of the unit, or behind the building. This unit is ADA compatible. The kitchenette is modest, with a hot plate, microwave and a toaster oven. Coffee and tea. Vaulted ceilings give the appearance of space, and the bathroom is very large. Heat/AC and sunny afternoons. First, I’d like to say that the house and land is even better than the photos. And the photos are gorgeous. Mandye was very responsive. If there was a problem she was proactive in handling it. We loved the property! Watching deer walk through the yard, the Steller Jays, squirrels… it was serene. The kitchen is well stocked. The beds and pillows were super comfortable. Mandye had all the extra touches. From high-end candles, scents within the house to all bathrooms stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The furniture is solid and comfortable as well. I highly recommend!

I loved my stay in the Tiny House! Kelly was welcoming and let me know what to expect when I arrived. There were so many sweet touches that make it feel cozy and homey. I enjoyed the semi-outdoor experience. Felt like I was at a hot spring! Loved meeting Lexi as well. Highly recommend the Hedge Creek Falls trail if you want a sweet, easy hike!

My girlfriend and I had a great time staying at Leilani and Nick's place. Communication was seamless, and the cottage was very cozy. We did struggle a little bit with operating the cooling/heating system, but the windows were well-placed and there was a nice breeze. Location-wise, very close to plenty of beautiful scenery, and very close to downtown Shasta as well. We enjoyed the stay very much.

We stayed at the home with 4 adults and we had a good time. The home was spacious enough for each of us to have privacy. There was only one shower, but having the second 1/2 bathroom helped a lot. The home was clean and had a nice back and front yard. We had no problem with anything. Everything functioned. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. The home was a bit out of the middle of town, but with a car no problem. I would definately stay there again!!! Thank you for renting the home to us. 😊👍🏻

We really like how the decor matches the character of the towns history. All needed supplies are well stocked and easy to find. Kitchen is especially well supplied. Linens are comfy and warm! We did not miss having a television, WiFi worked great for keeping up with the world and searching the area details. Thank you for welcoming us to your home!

We had such a peaceful and relaxing stay at this cabin! The location is incredibly serene tucked away in nature with the soothing sound of the stream nearby and beautiful stars overhead at night. It felt private and secluded, with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the surroundings. The kitchen was impressively well-stocked for an Airbnb, which made cooking easy and enjoyable. One of our favorite touches was the wood-burning stove in the living room and the wood that came along with it (saved us a trip back out!) Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking to disconnect and recharge in nature! Lots of beautiful trails on the property and gorgeous waterfalls nearby.
