Home in Golden Point

Step back in time to a hilltop house with views across the city through picture windows. Exposed brick and the extensive use of natural wood maintain a mid-century atmosphere, enhanced by period furnishings and gleaming softwood floors throughout. The House Manual provides information about Jack's, as we call our house. We do not host guests with accompanying pets and smoking on any part of the house and property is not acceptable. If these rules are not to your liking then please do not book. Jack's Place is an original 1960's architect designed house. A master bedroom with direct access to the bathroom (en-suite except it is the only one!). The second bedroom features jarrah flooring and exposed brick wall. The living area features a unique view across the City especially at night. Functional kitchen and laundry, air conditioning and heating. The rental terms are for the whole house but if a couple book then it is expected only one bedroom is used. On booking it is best to clarify if both bedrooms are required. If not we do not make up the second bed. Jack's Place is a free standing brick residence with its own car space. There is a walled courtyard and front lawn area/garden (yet to be fully developed ). Cate and I live behind Jack's Place and both properties share a driveway. Naturally the drive must be kept clear at all time. More than happy to be contacted with any questions relating to Ballarat in general, food, wine and things to do. This 1962 house is in Golden Point, an old area in the City of Ballarat, about 125 kilometers west of Melbourne. These days the architecture of the area varies from 1860s dwellings, California bungalows, and modern high-density residences. Ballarat's main street is Sturt St. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre and less to major supermarkets. Parking in town is charged via meter all week. On the edge of the central business district parking is free. Parking around the restaurant area of Armstrong St is difficult. My advice is to walk to dinner and Uber home. Local buses are confusing. Only a few minutes away is The Grapes Hotel, friendly and reliable. Ballarat weather can be variable. I have no control over the weather! We are perched about 375 metres above sea level, cold in Winter and hot in Summer. Summer nights tend to cool down. To keep the house warm and you comfortable, draw the blinds and turn on the heating. There are electric panel heater available in the house. Be very aware that they are not suitable for use when young children are part of the guest party. To cool the house, draw the blinds, close all windows and unnecessary doors and set the cooling for 10C below the outside temperature.

A lovely English-style tavern with live music sits at the end of our quiet street. Killlik Rum distillery is also at the end of the street for food and cocktails. Parking out front on road (cul de sac) Bus stop on corner to access hills towns Belgrave station 10 minutes walk Steps up to the house. Two cats live on property (Buddy & Braveheart) but probably wont impact on guests unless they are cat lovers!

Great Location and an easy walk into town. Place is very clean and exactly as per the pictures. Really enjoyed both the sunrises on the deck our front as well as a few cold ones at the end of the day with the loverly breeze you get from the river. Kitchen has everything you need to cook and the water pressure is great (be careful with the hot water as it can get very hot very quickly) This place was a great location for us to base ourselves from and visit the many wonderful areas of Mclaren Vale plus other local wineries. Adelaide was an easy drive, as well as Handorf for a German fix! I would highly recommend this place

Older traditional style B& B, Jocelyn was very helpful and no problems with later check in ( even met us with a torch to find the right driveway). Despite being an older property it is well maintained and clean with everything you would need for a comfortable night in, because it is a B & B there was a great selection of supplies and we really appreciated the orange juice. Our dog was also allowed to stay and she enjoyed her night as well.

Angela was an exceptional host—friendly, responsive, and always ready to help with anything I needed. She provided clear instructions for everything in the apartment, which made it easy to settle in and feel at home from the start. Fantastic 3 week for 4 people stay at this outstanding penthouse in Brunswick! The apartment is just minutes walk to the lively shops and cafes etc of Sydney Rd and in particular the local bakeries for breakfast supplies each morning . The location is very close to either the train or trams - literally 2 mins walk to either. The hosts are very responsive and everything was well managed. On arrival there was generous supplies of coffee pods and tea 's provided and a warm invitation to use any of kitchen supplies we needed during our stay. A personal favorite is that a soda stream was also provided (a small thing but always a delight !). The apartment is bright and airy (and just like the photographs) with a very large terrace space with loads of seating and comfy couches. The bedrooms had 'whisper quiet' air con units that made for great sleeps on those extra warm nights. The broadband speed is very fast. We would love to stay at this outstanding Penthouse apartment again.
