In a space that has been stripped down to the essentials, you notice something, think about it, and become at one with it. It's a shukubo that exists only because of that opportunity. The main deity is Benten, Uga Happi Benzaiten, who came from Togakushi.As the deity of water, Suijin is worshipped by many people whose work involves water, including those in agriculture and fishing. The next morning, before sunrise, the resident priest or an official guide will take you to the Zenkoji Temple morning service, which has been held continuously for over a thousand years.In the spacious main hall of Zenkoji Temple, candles are lit, the double gong sounds, signaling the start of the morning service, and monks from each temple in the mountains quickly make their way to the main hall.In the silence, the sound of statements, scripture readings, and drums spreads.In the dim light, hands are clasped, and one is immersed in prayer.There is a moment when your mind becomes empty. It is old, long, and unchanging. Upon returning to Renge-in and entering the earthen floor, the aroma of dashi stock drifts gently from the kitchen in the back, where breakfast is being prepared.Please enjoy a Shojin breakfast featuring carefully prepared seasonal ingredients, traditional local preserved foods, and seasonings.
