We all face unexpected situations. For millions of people, that means having to leave their home.
Through Open Homes, hosts have already offered temporary housing to over 11,000 people displaced by natural disasters, conflict, or illness. Your extra space can turn into a meaningful experience, not just for someone in need, but also for your community, family, and self.
How it works
Create a listing
Tell us about your space, how many people it can accommodate, and when it’s available. If you’re already an Airbnb host, just choose an existing listing.
How we support you
We know this can feel like a big commitment. That’s why we do our best to offer resources and protections before and during a stay.
Screening and checks
While no screening system is perfect, globally we run agency representatives and guests who book directly through Airbnb against regulatory, terrorist, and sanctions watchlists. In the United States, we also conduct background checks.
Reimbursements for property damage
Though accidents are rare, we understand you may need protection. The Host Guarantee will reimburse every host for qualifying property damages up to $1,000,000.
Guest requirements and verifications
Before any stay, agency representatives and guests booking directly in the event of a disaster must create an Airbnb account and will be asked to provide details, including a full name, date of birth, photo, phone number, email address and payment information.
24/7 phone support and resources
You’re not in this alone. In addition to Airbnb’s 24/7 customer support team, you’ll have access to a specialised team for any questions about an Open Homes reservation. For stays that are arranged by our nonprofit partners, you might also have the support of a representative or caseworker. Read about how Airbnb keeps the community safe.
Who we work with
We’re always looking to learn from experts in the causes we support. That’s why we’ve partnered with organisations, both global and local, to truly understand the communities we serve and how to best help them. These registered nonprofits use Open Homes to find accommodation for their clients and help provide support for hosts during a stay.
