The ksar Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified village and is the symbol of Amazigh culture and earthen architecture in southeastern Morocco. This impressive masterpiece was built on the side of a rock in the Ounila Valley and discovered in perfect harmony with its natural environment. Ait Ben Haddou's ksar dates back to the 12th century and several legends tell of its foundation. The village was an important stop for the camel caravans that connected countries beyond the Sahara to the great cities of Morocco like Marrakech, Fez or Meknes. We can still admire the ancient parts of the ksar restored since its classification by UNESCO in 1987 as a World Heritage Site.
