Stay here and see how Duck used to be! Our neighborhood features century-old live oaks and gravel roads. The home is one of the oldest beach houses in Duck, but has many recent updates. Just 260 yards from the ocean and miles away from the crowds.

The space

This home is one of the oldest in Duck. The Town of Duck was a duck hunting village before becoming a summer beach destination and this home was used by those hunters before the area was built up with larger vacation homes and reversed floor plans. Although the house retains the coziness of times gone by, it has many upgrades, including new HVAC and windows, to ensure your comfort.
The main level has a great room with plenty of seating, dining table, and kitchen.
There are two downstairs bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with two twins. There is a shared bath on the first floor.
At the top of the stairs you enter the bunk room, which has the shared bath. Guests walk through the bunk room to the larger bedroom with the queen bed and upper deck access.

Guest access

We are located along the 9 mile multi-use path that is very popular with joggers and bikers and runs straight though the village of Duck. A beach cart, chairs, umbrellas, and grill are available and bikes can be rented in town.

Interaction with guests

I live just a block away, so I am available to guests on an as-needed basis. I usually try to meet guests at check-in/check-out and I'm happy to give local recommendations and can provide information as needed.

Other things to note

Dogs considered on a case-by-case basis, with an added pet-fee. Smoking is not allowed inside. You are welcome to smoke on the patio, but please use the receptacle provided for your butts. Please do not leave trash of any kind (including cigarette butts) on the beach.

We had a really lovely time at Vintage. The house was as we expected - it's a super cute and cozy older beach (URL HIDDEN) vintage! If you are expecting Viking stoves and Japanese soaking tubs you will not find them, but you will find a really comfortable home in a lovely neighborhood that is a short walk to the beach. After we reserved this home we saw a new review saying that the house smelled of mold and that the walls and ceiling were falling in. I have an allergy to mold so was really concerned - we actually developed a back up hotel plan if it was indeed an issue. We contacted Kelly about our concern and she assured us that she had had the house checked and it was fine. She also told us that she had put air purifiers on both levels of the house to further erase any possibilities of problems. I felt her response to our concern was immediate and thorough, and based on that interaction had every confidence that if there were any problems she would do everything in her power to correct any situation she could. I have the nose of a bloodhound, and we were LOOKING for mold the minute we walked into the house. It wasn't there. Did the house smell? Yes, every house has it's own smell and this house smells like you would expect an older house at the beach to smell - it's not a bad smell and it is not a moldy smell. Regarding the claim that the walls and ceiling were basically falling down, I can assure you they weren't. Is everything at perfect right angles like in a new suburban tract home? No, it's an older home. It is unique, it has character and quirks such as ceilings that wave a little go with that. The fact that this was an older more unique little cottage is actually what attracted us. The neighborhood is really nice, everyone is super friendly. The beach at the end of the lane is really wide and beautiful and just a few minutes walk - using the beach cart that is available makes it really easy to cart all your stuff back and forth. The beach cart, towels, chairs and umbrellas that are supplied by Kelly are great as it saved having to bring all that stuff ourselves. Our host, Kelly, was great and available for any questions throughout our stay-if we had had any problems I don't doubt she would have been there to take care of anything needed. This was our first Air bnb experience, and based on it we would not hesitate to travel this way again and I also would not hesitate to stay in this home again.

This charming cottage is on a quiet street very close to the beach. My group of five woman enjoyed the kitchen, the patios and the calming atmosphere. We loved being away from a busy town/city but close enough to central Duck to easily enjoy sunset cocktails and a nice meal out one night. Kelly was communicative and incredibly helpful. We would love to return!

The house location is excellent and Duck is a super charming family friendly place. Kelly checked us in and made us feel welcome. She also reached out a few days after and made sure we had everything we needed. So all was good from that standpoint. Soon after we started spending time there we discovered a major problem: the house has a strong odor that is very likely mold. Almost every room smells and closets are the worst. We aired the house, put fresheners and the smell would not go away. By the end of thurs day I got sick from the mold. We rented this house in February (for August), so Kelly mentioned today after check-out that there was a leak in the upstairs bathroom (two weeks ago) that came down to the bedroom with the twin beds. I wish I had known about it sooner. We stayed there for five nights, so to be fair, I should have mentioned the problem to Kelly before check-out. I was so disappointed with the odor and general state of the house: ceilings snd walls are starting to crumble, carpets are so old and the air vents have rust. Everything is so old and shabby. In my view this house should not be rented without major repair, and not before the mold problem is fixed. As mentioned already, the house has serious mold issue that made me sick. The walls and ceilings have started caving in and crumbling. I don't believe this house can be rented anymore as it's a sick house.

Kellys house is a perfect cottage for a beach getaway. It was very clean and spacious enough for 5 guys. Towels and linens were provided which helps a lot of packing headaches. Upstairs and downstairs bathrooms are pretty small, but was not an issue for us at all. The block and a half walk to the beach was awesome and all the fun stuff in duck is less than 10 min down the road. Would definitely stay again!

The house is exactly what we wanted for a "Girl's Getaway" for six 50+ women celebrating life & a birthday! Just as advertised; convenient to beach as well as restaurants, shops, and activities. Beach towels, chairs, umbrellas & a cart included. Well equipped kitchen, including wine glasses; charcoal grill & lovely decks for catching the evening breeze. Will definitely return if I have the opportunity. Kelly is available when needed to answer questions about her town.

This home is in a great location and a three minute walk to the beach! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need which we appreciated so we could avoid typical OBX traffic or driving to the local restaurants. Comfortable size living space with a full bathroom upstairs, downstairs, and an outdoor shower. Plenty of parking and beach chairs and beach towels are included in your stay!

Kelly User ProfileKelly is a superhost.

I love to travel and experience new places! I became an Airbnb host in 2015 after deciding to be a stay-at-home mom to our two small children, and now am host to three properties in our neighborhood, so I am usually available to interact with our guests. I have always enjoyed working in hospitality, but really developed a love for hosting during my eight years spent traveling and working in lodges in Costa Rica and Panama. These lodges each offered something unique and personal to the guests' experience that I had never experienced before, and that I try to offer for our Airbnb guests.
