JOHN - John Hinson Young III comes from a long line of hospitality professionals. Born in Jamaica in 1971 where his family owned the The Plantation Inn, John's grandfather owned and operated The Lantana Colony Club in Bermuda previously. John began learning the business from the ground up by following his beloved grandfather around the original Ledgelets property, watching his every move and absorbing his wisdom while in Bermuda on family vacations.
After leaving Jamaica in 1978, John’s family settled in Vermont where they bought and ran the Sugarbush Inn until 1988 before moving into the restaurant business. It should be no surprise to anyone that John’s main focus and objective is to create a sense of place while paying careful attention to the core needs of every visitor.
At 16, John went to work for Horizons and Cottages (a Relais & Chateaux property) in Bermuda as a summer student over the next two years. From 1992 John spent three years in Colorado working for the Vail Village Inn and then as a Manager at the Vail Racquet Club. In 1995 John returned to Vermont to complete his studies at the University of Vermont, concentrating on Entrepreneurship Management. After graduating in 1998, John joined the Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stowe Vermont where he spent four years working his way up to Front Office Manager and Assistant to the Executive Housekeeper, again honing his skills and learning every aspect of the business.
John moved back to his native Bermuda in 2002 working in hospitality in various guises until 2005 when he was invited to join the executive team as the assistant Manager of the Golf Villas - part of the Private Residence Club at the brand new Tucker’s Point Resort. He quickly rose through the ranks becoming General Manager of the Golf Villas before becoming Director of the Residence Club Operations, overseeing more than 300 owners and 35 staff.
Although being part of one of the island's newest tourism products from the beginning, John's ultimate goal was to use his talents and experience to own and operate something uniquely Bermudian. That opportunity came in 2013 when he became sole owner of his family property - The Ledgelets.
ALISON - Alison Corday Young is a business woman and designer who grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA, with a Bermudian father and American mother. In 1999, in her junior year of college, she started a company making custom handbags out of vintage fabrics with a friend. These evolved into stylish therapeutic bags that had patent pending magnetic technology that helped to reduce stress on the mind and body. A couple years after graduating, Alison moved back to her island home of Bermuda to work for Tucker’s Point Club and Hotel. As the Director of Retail, she developed their early shops, including the Golf Pro Shop, the Tennis Pro Shop, the Spa boutique and the lobby boutique Regali. She was involved in all aspects of purchasing, branding and developing merchandise for the luxury property, including apparel, gifts and spa product. Now, working with her husband John, Alison is able to put all her passions – style, art, wellness and hospitality – together to make The Ledgelets Cottage Colony experience island-cool and authentic.
HINSON - Little Hinson has tons of experience in being cute. Already a jet-setter, Hinson is very sociable and loves to read and dance. As stylish as mommy and as charming as daddy, she joins them in being committed to creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all guests at The Ledgelets.
LANTANA AKA "GUARD CAT" - is our favorite feline. He is a rescue and has been a part of the family since he was a kitten. Tana, as we affectionately refer to him, is an indoor / outdoor cat and roams the property freely. He may take a little time to warm up, but feel free to give him lots of love when he does. We only ask that you do not feed him...he can be a bit greedy!
