This is an extract of a Press review of Casa Saurizzi:

« A long, uphill road so seemingly impassable that at every bend you can’t help but ask yourself why anyone would buy and endeavour to restore a trulli here.
As you proceed, the reason becomes clear. On the right, a procession of cones, lined up in ascending order, appear. On the left, as far as the eye can see is a valley that reaches out to the sea. The view from here isn’t just a distant backcloth. It is a picture that peeps out in every room. It is a magnet that hypnotically draws you in. It is a part of the soul. Anyone who would choose this place as his retreat must know this feeling well, because even a newcomer is seduced at once by the atmosphere, by its detachment from everything, by a sudden sense of peace.
An L-shaped structure. On the shorter side a living area that encompasses the dining room. On the taller side, there are three rooms, each with its own “cappello a punta” (pointed hat) : the kitchen, the Moroccan living room and a small study. And at the end of the telescope of rooms is the bedroom. Everywhere, a slight renovation, elegant, even austere at times. Visible stone, pale shades, old materials used by Mosé Albanese. Nearly every furnishing is in stonework. It is religious in its simplicity and moderation, borne of the trullo’s initial modest vocation. But, if one looks carefully at the harmony of the composition, there is an amusing note, a creative, even frivolous one, visible in the choice of objects. A shelf hangs from the ceiling by a rope, like a swing, in the living room; a ladder for olive picking is used as a towel holder in the bathroom; interesting washbasins and floors have been chosen with the help of Marco Ippolito; a storehouse crate is turned into a dish rack in the dining room; an old travel trunk is placed in a niche in the bedroom.
A renovation like this one, that seems as natural as possible, is instead a point of arrival. Of an Apulia already digested, penetrated and made one’s own. As you depart, the view suddenly turns 180 degrees. The trulli are now set in the valley; the cones have become the panorama. It is difficult from here to worry about the fact that outside there is a world.
Maybe it’s because Casa Saurizzi is the world and everything else is only a way to get there. »
