This is a decent apartment in a beautiful neighborhood. We felt safe here and loved admiring the various gardens! The metro stops are about a 15 minute walk but there is a bikeshare a few blocks away. There are a couple of markets and great restaurants nearby. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay while you explore DC, this is a good option. The check in instructions are somewhat incorrect but we found our way in.

Emma's place was in a great location, convenient for us as we were visiting the museums and national monuments. The metro was not far to walk and ride but we learned that Uber was by far the best way to commute. We never needed to communicate with Emma because everything was perfect and prepared for our arrival, but had we needed to, I'm sure Emma would have been accommodating based on the quaintness and charming character of her place. Perfect for a national city getaway!

Unfortunately, our stay at Emma's did not get off to a positive start, as we discovered upon arrival one stripped bed, one messy bed in the loft, and still damp towels and dirty linens in a laundry basket. I dislike having to give a negative review, especially as I've had only outstanding experiences on Airbnb, but upon checking all of the reviews from 2017, there were several other occasions in which guests mentioned lack of basic amenities provided at check-in, which indicates that this has been, at best, an intermittent yet still chronic issue. Many of those guests gave Emma the benefit of the doubt that by mentioning their experience, it wouldn't happen to other travelers. However, it did happen again, and in this case, to two travelers with a tight timeline to stick to during the first 1-2 hours of check-in, and one of whom was pregnant and wanted to be able to shower upon arrival and go to bed early after dinner. When Emma did respond, it was an hour and a half later after our first message during this critical check-in period for us, and while she did offer a remedy the situation, the time that it took forced us to change our evening plans as we weren't sure we were going to receive a response before needing to leave to get to our plans. Moreover, the lack of a simple apology for the first six hours left a bad taste in our mouths. She did offer to waive the $30 cleaning fee, but considering the circumstances and the effect that they had on the rest of our evening, this gesture fell short. We also were left wondering that had we checked in after our evening plans, we would have been entering a space with dirty linens and towels at the end of a very long travel day. We sincerely hope that this does not happen to future guests.

I was not expected to stay so close to the US Capitol. If you are planning to stay in this apartment, "let's take a walk" could mean walking all the way to the US Capitol, the White House, the National Archieve, the Washington Monument, the Albert Einstein Memorial as well as the Lincoln (URL HIDDEN) be prepared.

Hey there! My name is Emma, I'm a California native but raised in DC. Thanks for considering my listing for your visit to Washington, DC! Whether you're visiting for business, pleasure or for family, I hope I can make your trip enjoyable, relaxing and fun.

Being from the Pacific Northwest, hiking and camping has always had a special place in my heart. After moving to DC, with a mother who was a museum docent, as well as my experience studying art in college, the museums in DC are definitely worth a visit!

If you need any ideas on where to go on your trip here, please feel free to ask. Thank you again!
