Our suite downstairs is within walking distance to the UNIVERSITY and consists of a large bedroom, private bathroom and kitchenette with bar refrigerator, kettle, and microwave - everything you need to make your stay cost effective. Please be aware that Mark's art studio shares the same hallway as the suite but we try very hard to respect your privacy by not using the studio when you are residence.

The space
Welcome to Cairns where the 'rainforest meets the sea'!
Our Queenslander home (built in the 1940s) sits high in the hills of Smithfield, capturing all the sea breezes from the coast. In addition, Smithfield has a large shopping centre where you can purchase just about anything you need.

Like other QLDER houses, our home is built on stilts. We have a cool suite downstairs that consists of a very large bedroom (queen bed), private double sink bathroom and separate kitchenette with bar sized refrigerator, kettle, and microwave - everything you need to make your stay cost effective. A second bed can be located in the bedroom should you be travelling with a companion. The downstairs area also houses Mark's art studio so whilst it is private, you will sometimes pass us in the hallway.

There is public transport nearby that would take you to the shopping centre, the city, and the beaches. The bus system has improved in the last 5 years but be aware that buses tend to be between 30 and 60 minutes apart depending on the time of the day.

Our house is situated high in the hills of Smithfield. We have cool breezes all year round. We are close to beaches, shops and the city.
The home is well positioned being a 10 minute walk to James Cook University; a 10 minute drive to the beaches; 15 minutes to the city; and 20 minutes to the Kuranda.

Hi, I am Robbie and I am a psychologist employed as a guidance officer working for Education Queensland in a centre that supports behaviourally challenged and disadvantaged children and youth. I love the beach, red wine and going out for dinner! Mark is a talented individual and can turn his hand to almost anything. He loves to paint and many of his art works are featured in the house. Most are for sale, so come and have a look. He is also a musician and can be found gigging most weekends in and around Cairns. During the week, he works at a music shop. Mark and I have spent about 5 months traveling (2 separate road trips) across the States. We had a fantastic time and met lots of great airbnb hosts along the way. We think it is a great way to see the country and meet the locals.

We are a busy family with diverse interests.
Mark is an artist and a musician. His artwork adorns all the walls of the home.
I am a psychologist working with disadvantaged children and youth in the Cairns area. I work in education with schools and families. My position is challenging but I love working with the families.
We are usually home at night and are happy to hear about your day and the sites that you have seen. We have lived in the area for over 25 years so we are more than willing to help you out with where to go and what to see. We can point you to the best cafes, music, restaurants, attractions and natural beauty spots that Cairns has to offer! We have compiled a guide that will help you find the places that we recommend and we have included their addresses so that you can find them with your GPS!
We have spent over 6 months travelling in the States (2013 and again in 2017) and have bought back lots of great ideas from fellow airbnb hosts so hopefully you will find that our accommodation has heaps to offer. We have great references as tenants as well as hosts.
