A place to unwind in Wayanad of Western Ghats. Perched on top of a hill, this tree house in a small plantation farm provides the basic amenities & leave the rest for Nature to provide (the thatched roof could leak sometimes during the monsoon as well :-)

Good local cuisine food, a small library, Lily pond and more. If your expectations are bare minimum and being really close to nature is what you are looking for, you are welcome!

The space

The Punchiri cottage is located on top of Kurumbalakotta hill. The vehicles are to be parked at the care takers place which is some 500 ms ahead of the cottage. Guests are expected to climb up this last 500 ms to reach the accommodation place.

If there are heavy items that you may not need, it can be kept at the care takers place itself.

Electricity at the cottage is intermittent. For critical requirements like battery charging etc, care takers house has 24 hrs power connection and it can be used.

As in unbridled Nature, the place teems up with other organisms like mosquitoes and insects especially during monsoon. As a stilted structure, the accommodation space is free of such creatures (except for mosquitoes).

Guest access

Though the place is remote, the region is inhibited by a well knit community and hence nothing to worry. There's lots of space to roam around and you are free to do so.

All assistance and support (medical, food etc) are available immediately.

While you are welcome to be on your own, we request you to be mindful of your dressing. As the local community is conservative, we expect the females to avoid revealing clothes and use the South Indian dressing style as a benchmark.

Interaction with guests

The place is taken care by the local womens' Self Help Group. They will be available throughout the stay for any help and support.

Other things to note

Food can be arranged on pre-order only as it'll be cooked specifically for you. Charges for Food are to be paid to the local community members directly. Food is charged at the following rates:
Lunch and Dinner > Rs. 150/- per meal per person for vegetarian food
Rs. 200/- for non vegetarian food. Breakfast >> Rs. 150/- per person
Coffee/Tea are not charged separately and can be provided as and when required. Please note that during some local festival times, the community may not cook non vegetarian food and hence request to be sensitive to the local conditions.

We can organize for a good bonfire session as well (additional charges apply). You can pitch a tent near the pond and spend the night star gazing (the new moon nights are wonderful for star gazing here)

A walk/trek along the ridge of the Kurumbalakotta hill is a wonderful thing to do. It takes around 3 hours to complete the walk/trek and can be taken up by even old and family people without prior trekking experience. The Palazhiraja cave at the far end of the hill is an interesting viewing point. Legend has it that Palazhiraja used it to keep watch on hostile movements. (local guide charges apply)

Place is for nature lover! If you have a fantasy to live with nature inside a forest, then this could be your best destination. Quite, isolated from busy cities, nature sounds and calm place! Don't expect all the facilities like in hotels. But still you will have good time with nature!

A secluded location surrounded by thick rainforest. Ideal for people looking to break away from the noise pollution of cities and absorb the sound of nature. The food was simple but good.

Comfortable getaway from all kinds of city noise, chatter and traffic - found exactly what I was wishing for in those terms in the tranquil forested location.. and waking up each morning to a huge variety of avian sounds was a highlight too. (Followed occassionally through the day by sightings of some unusual birds.) The cabin is minimal but seems well-maintained, and the sit-out below the cabin was ideal for spending time in solitude or just to take in the surroundings. Enjoyed the meals arranged for by the caretakers (who are a caring and friendly lot and ready to help). The toilet amenities provided are more than sufficient for anyone used to outdoor camping. Only words of advice would be to take insect repellent cream along as the ants and mosquitos can get busy!

The place was splendid! It was a dream come true experience that made us feel so close to the nature. The place is exactly as it is shown in the pics. The pond could have been made a bit more interesting. The hosts welcomed us with a bonfire and great meal! They were indeed very warm and cordial. A wonderful experience overall.

Had a beautiful, exciting, and close to nature experience. Very helpful and hospitable neighbors. I would give 11/10 for the food. Super tasty! Has good signal reception as well unlike other places. Note: It involves little bit of walking till the neighbors' house for food. This not for those who expect the luxuries of a hotel room. If you are adventure seeking, go for it!

I am a Nature lover. I believe keeping Mother Earth beautiful is our first and foremost duty. In return, we get the right to enjoy the Happiness provided by her. With this objective, our Punchiri has evolved.
