A place to unwind in Wayanad of Western Ghats. Perched on top of a hill, this tree house in a small plantation farm provides the basic amenities & leave the rest for Nature to provide (the thatched roof could leak sometimes during the monsoon as well :-)
Good local cuisine food, a small library, Lily pond and more. If your expectations are bare minimum and being really close to nature is what you are looking for, you are welcome!
The Punchiri cottage is located on top of Kurumbalakotta hill. The vehicles are to be parked at the care takers place which is some 500 ms ahead of the cottage. Guests are expected to climb up this last 500 ms to reach the accommodation place.
If there are heavy items that you may not need, it can be kept at the care takers place itself.
Electricity at the cottage is intermittent. For critical requirements like battery charging etc, care takers house has 24 hrs power connection and it can be used.
As in unbridled Nature, the place teems up with other organisms like mosquitoes and insects especially during monsoon. As a stilted structure, the accommodation space is free of such creatures (except for mosquitoes).
Though the place is remote, the region is inhibited by a well knit community and hence nothing to worry. There's lots of space to roam around and you are free to do so.
All assistance and support (medical, food etc) are available immediately.
While you are welcome to be on your own, we request you to be mindful of your dressing. As the local community is conservative, we expect the females to avoid revealing clothes and use the South Indian dressing style as a benchmark.
Interaction with guests
The place is taken care by the local womens' Self Help Group. They will be available throughout the stay for any help and support.
Other things to note

Lunch and Dinner > Rs. 150/- per meal per person for vegetarian food
Rs. 200/- for non vegetarian food. Breakfast >> Rs. 150/- per person
Coffee/Tea are not charged separately and can be provided as and when required. Please note that during some local festival times, the community may not cook non vegetarian food and hence request to be sensitive to the local conditions.
We can organize for a good bonfire session as well (additional charges apply). You can pitch a tent near the pond and spend the night star gazing (the new moon nights are wonderful for star gazing here)
A walk/trek along the ridge of the Kurumbalakotta hill is a wonderful thing to do. It takes around 3 hours to complete the walk/trek and can be taken up by even old and family people without prior trekking experience. The Palazhiraja cave at the far end of the hill is an interesting viewing point. Legend has it that Palazhiraja used it to keep watch on hostile movements. (local guide charges apply)
