Surrounded by high moor, yet just 20mins from the A38, Wydemeet offers spacious, light-drenched, luxurious rooms; peace, seclusion and comfort. All you will hear is the trickling of the river, and a neigh from the wild ponies just outside the gate!

The space

Sumptuous, elegant, and stylish, just refurbished by local interior designers 'Artists and Artisans', no expense spared, all creams and golds, our look is described as 'Jane Austen Romantic'.

Spacious double-aspect room with the 'WOW!' factor! Indulge! Flooded with sunshine in the mornings, all new huge mahogany six foot Super King bed with deep medium/firm 3000 pocket sprung mattress, electric blanket, thick crumply duvet and luscious pillows, luxurious throw and cushions - you won't want to climb out in the morning!

Breath-taking views of garden, moorland, trees and fields beyond.

Large en suite bathroom looking out across the garden to our horses' pasture full of wild flowers.

Egyptian cotton bed linen; thick, soft, fluffy, warm towels and bath robes, heavy curtains, window-seats and luxurious deep-pile carpet. Antique furniture, original oils, period fireplace, large Freesat TV, free Wifi.

Proper ground coffee, fresh milk, variety of teas, spring water, The White Company 'flower', gold rimmed porcelain etc

The sun beams into the bathroom in the mornings, or enjoy a romantic candle-lit evening soak in the enormous bath built for two. You'll also find a separate shower, bidet and period fireplace.

Retire, and wake up to total peace and silence - just the natural sounds of the countryside.

Guest access

We only let out the two best rooms in our comfortable, large family home, so often it's just you! Guests are encouraged to wander in and out anywhere at any time, and use the house as they would their own home. We have lived here for twenty years, so are very much part of the local community and familiar with the local area.

Interaction with guests

Breakfast is served anytime from 8.30am in our elegant south-facing dining room, with views across the hot-tub and garden to the moor beyond.

Hot tub
Free parking on premises

The key house rule we have is that you must have a lovely time!

A second one is that we don't normally serve breakfast before 9.00am. But after that, you can have it anytime you like! Come down in your pyjamas and go back to bed for the rest of the day if you want to!

Nice, clean, well-behaved dogs allowed, provided they're happy to sleep quietly in the downstairs hall with our little pooch, behind a baby-gate.

Mary's Wydemeet is a beautiful, charming and a super-relaxing place to go for a visit! The drive to get there is breath-taking and bucolic - a place where cows, sheep, and wild ponies abound. The fresh country-air was refreshing, and beautiful green grass and rock formations ever present. Her breakfasts were amazing!!! Fresh, organic eggs, sausages, bacon and fruit. Not to mention the most delicious croissants we've ever had. While there, be sure to use the outdoor jacuzzi - we enjoyed it on a cool, clear night, and in addition to all the stars, we counted 6 or 7 satellites zooming over our heads! Is Wydemeet located in a rather remote location? Yes! (URL HIDDEN) just a short drive off the beaten trail, and only minutes to drive to a local pub and/or restaurant. The location is a definite PLUS!!! Take the time and effort to step off the planet for a time, and enjoy a most relaxing stay. You will not regret it.

Quite simply, this was the best B and B we have ever stayed in. Location, accommodation and welcome were all outstanding. Mary is a brilliant host - welcoming, interesting, and willing to do pretty much anything to ensure that her guests enjoy themselves. And we certainly did. As outdoor people, we loved being surrounded by the moors, with ponies and cattle grazing outside the gate, and wonderful views on all sides. You are spoilt for choice of walks or runs in all directions from the front door, without setting foot on a public roads, and as a great centre for exploring the moors on bikes, Wydemeet is exceptional. Trout fishing is available nearby in the river Dart, and even wild swimming for adventurous types. After all this activity you can relax in the hot tub, enjoying the views across the moor, before retiring to a beautiful room, and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. We are already planning a return visit next year and can't wait!

Staying with Mary was a lovely experience, from the moment we arrived at her beautiful house in the wilds of Dartmoor. The welcome was warm and genuine, the room large and beautiful, with a huge, comfortable bed and generous en suite bathroom, and breakfast was delicious and elegantly served. Mary is friendly and informative and can advise about local walks, features and restaurants etc. There is a pub serving good food 20 minutes' walk away, so the remote location is no problem, and we had a delightful few days feeling utterly pampered.

The house and location were wonderful. Mary was the perfect host and made our first airbnb guest stay a delight! The room was just as described and gloriously comfortable with a great sized ensuite. Mary invited us into her kitchen and we shared airbnb hosting and music related stories, which was fun. She is a fun, generous and totally natural hostess who knows how to cook up a great breakfast! We throughly enjoyed our stay and most certainly hope to visit again.
