Cresson Hayes is a Grade II* listed sixteenth century house with a rambling garden in a hamlet in the Dartmoor National Park in South Devon.

Offering accommodation for up to eight people, the house is at the south end of a range of three dwellings.

The space

It is full of historical interest and original features, with carved and painted beams, mullioned windows, granite fireplaces, a stone spiral staircase, recessed window seats, and many other interesting nooks and crannies to explore.

Comfortably but not luxuriously furnished, it is a much loved family house with a very welcoming atmosphere, showing some signs of wear and tear (not everything matches!), filled with paintings, antiques, curios, books, maps and games.

With the south moor and winding Dart valley on its doorstep, it is an ideal base for walkers and there is also a wide range of activities for children in the area. The south Devon coast is within an hour’s drive.

Guest access

Guests will have the whole house to themselves.

Interaction with guests

We are available to help guests on the phone if any problems, and a neighbour can also assist if required.

Other things to note

Due to the stone spiral staircase, the house is not really suitable for toddlers.

The house is stunning and fantastic!! It's a real old countryside house. We think all decorations in the home need to take a few generations to finish it and it's really comfy and home-alike. It's an actual home. Strongly recommend for family with children or Friends. The neighbor Norma is very friendly and helpful. The instruction to the house is very detail and useful. However I have to say the way to there is quite hard(too hilly and narrow)and like an adventure... Anyway children will definitely love it!

We were met by Will and Catherine's neighbor, Norma as we got to the cottage. She was so helpful in showing us around, and we had a wonderful guidebook telling us about local attractions in the house. The house itself was large and beautiful. There were six of us and we had a lovely time working, walking and cooking. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and everything worked perfectly. The garden behind the house was also the perfect place to relax. Can't recommend Cresson Hayes highly enough - looking forward to returning!
