Our place is close (200 yards) to the Beach, Downtown (1.4 m), parks, grocery/drug store, and restaurants. It is adjacent to the Tart Trail bike path.
The apt has a Queen bed, futon sofa bed, comfy pappasan, and space flexibility. My place is good for couples, singles, families (with kids), and furry friends (small pets).
The kitchen is fully stocked for eating and cooking with microwave, coffeemaker (and coffee), pots/pans, toaster oven, and a supply of condiment and spice essentials.
The apartment is on the 2nd floor of a two-story, 5-unit older apartment house built in 1950. There are long-term residents living in the other units. The apartment is approximately 600 sq. ft with a good sized living room and eating nook and a modest but ample bedroom (11 x 14). The bathroom has been newly renovated this year and is located within the bedroom. The kitchen is modest but more than sufficient for travellers wishing to cook from scratch.
You have the entire apartment (#4) which you access from the front or from the back staircase. Each adult guest receives a key. The front door of the building has a 4 digit lock - which we will text you on the day you arrive.
The wireless internet access code is on the TV table in the bedroom and on a little telephone nook in the living room. The internet is quite good.
There is a large lawn area if you have kayaks or canoe or other large equipment that you need to keep with you (or you rented). There is a bike rack to lock bikes. It is recommended to bring bikes since you are essentially on the trail (one block away) and summer parking is crowded any closer to downtown.
The parking lot has more than sufficient space.
Interaction with guests
I am available 24/7 for any questions or concerns. We live in Grand Rapids this year, but your next door apartment renter - Darcie and Justin (apt #1) - will be your hosts this summer. All the tenants at the house are friendly and can answer any questions.
Other things to note
The building is not the Taj Majal but the apartment is clean and comfy and should meet or exceed your needs. It is a very good location. Last year we got a couple 4s (instead of 5s) because there was a tenant on the first floor that had cats and cat smell. Those tenants have gone and the smell with them.
It is next door to a large grocery store (Tom's) which is open until 10 pm and a Rite Aid which closes at 9 or 10 pm as well. The location is next to the intersection of M-72 (Empire is 22 miles away), M-22 (Sutton's Bay is 15 miles away), and Grandview Parkway ( which parallels the Bay and becomes M-31).
Sleeping Bear Dunes is 26 miles away just north of Empire. There are two casinos in the area - Leelanau Sands is 3 miles north of Sutton's Bay and Turtle Creek Casino is approximately 12 miles away past Acme.
There are approximately 20 vineyards up the Leelanau Peninsula beginning with Brengman Brothers about 4 miles up M-22 north. The apartment has so information for travellers - though most people coming seem to know the area.
- This is a 2 story, five-unit apartment building
- You can have outside parties on the lawn or deck area during the day/early evening. There is a gas BBQ available on the deck.
- There are other small pets in building
- No pets in bedroom area please
From Nov 01, 2017 - Mar 31, 2018 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
My wife and I live in Traverse City. She is Medical Doctor and I am a Research Professor. I recently bought this 5 unit apartment building within short walking distance to the bay and beach. We are keeping most of the apartments as long-term rentals but are offering one of the 2nd floor apartments as a rental.
While this is the first time we are hosting through AirBnB we have been renters through it for many years in many cities in France, Italy, Hawaii.
