'Albert's' is in the heart of historic Wallingford's beautiful conservation area, a 3 minute walk from the High Street. Built around 1700, 'Albert's' has many original features - kitchen range (not in use!) and original wooden floors and beams - full of charm and character throughout. Peaceful and secluded garden. You have use of the whole cottage - a cosy kitchen and sitting room, and bathroom downstairs and 2 double bedrooms. Good Wifi and a small parking space, so please take great care.

The space
If you're looking for character and charm then Albert's may well be the place for you. It's cosy and comfortable with a simple decorative style throughout and a secluded and sheltered garden which you are very welcome to use. The bathroom is freshly renovated, so you can enjoy a leisurely bath or an invigorating shower - bathrobes are provided.

Guest access
During your stay, you are most welcome to have exclusive use of the whole cottage. Downstairs you will find a cosy and characterful sitting room to enjoy a snuggly evening, with original wooden floorboards and plenty of ceiling beams. Albert's has a beautiful kitchen, which although not large, covers all your needs with fridge/freezer, oven and hob, dishwasher and seating for four around the table. It is a very characterful room with the original range and a traditional door to the stairs. As they are possibly around 300 years old, so are a little uneven, compared with modern ones, but there are handrails on either side. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, both with wooden framed beds and cosy duvets. There is storage and hanging wardrobe space for you and a useful cloakroom with toilet and wash basin. There are tea and coffee making facilities upstairs for you. Down in the kitchen you can enjoy a breakfast of toast, homemade marmalade, preserves, cereals, yoghurts etc - please do let me know of any dietary requirements in advance of your arrival and I'll make sure you're well stocked up!

Location

Wallingford, England, United Kingdom

Wallingford is a beautiful little ancient Oxfordshire town, sitting beside the River Thames, with lovely riverside walks along the Thames Path or through the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - it's wonderful walking country. Boats can be hired from the nearby marina in Benson and there are quintessentially gorgeous villages around Wallingford with links to Agatha Christie and Jerome K Jerome, author of 'Three Men in a Boat'. Midsomer Murders is filmed in and around Wallingford (including Wood Street!) and there are trail walks to guide you around some of the locations featured. Oxford is 14 miles North, with its wealth of history, the beautiful university buildings and modern shopping opportunities. Henley-on-Thames is a picturesque 11 mile drive away, with designer shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and the River and Rowing Museum. London Paddington station can be reached in under an hour from Cholsey station, which is 3 miles from Wallingford. You could also explore the splendours of Blenheim Palace, which is in Woodstock, a 40 minute drive away or if you prefer a quieter spot, the National Trust's Grey's Court is simply beautiful, a 20 minute drive away, towards Henley-on Thames.

During your stay
I look forward to welcoming you to Albert's, though depending on the timing of your arrival, either I or a friendly neighbour will be there to greet you and make sure you're happily settled in. I will always be available on my mobile, should you have any questions or if there's anything at all I can help with. Do feel free to email me any questions you may have prior to your stay and I'll do my very best to answer them, make recommendations or provide local information. There is also a collection of up-to-date leaflets and brochures about local places of interest and seasonal events. In short, I am very keen that you have a thoroughly happy stay and will offer you any help or information, whilst respecting your privacy.
