A charming, thatched cottage with a large garden, situated on a quiet country, no-through, lane and surrounded by stunning views of the countryside. Located in picturesque Horningsham, the village of Longleat Safari Park, there are lots of lovely walks from the doorstep and plenty of attractions to visit in the area.
This detached cottage, some of it dating back to the 16th century, was probably built to house local weavers. The original one up one down cottage is now the spacious kitchen and upstairs twin bedroom, both with original beams (and staircase, see note below). It has since been extended several times to give a large sitting room and dining area, bathroom and double bedroom on the ground floor.
There is a Clavinova for those who can't bear to be without a piano even on holiday and there is enough space to rehearse a string quartet (just a thought!)
We love it here, it's just as nice holing up against the weather as when it's wonderfully sunny.
There is parking for up to three cars.
Access to the cottage is up a hill and the stairs up to the twin bedroom are steep and uneven so this property might not be suitable for small children or the infirm.
Interaction with guests
We do not live on-site, so you'll have the place to yourselves, but someone is not far away if there are any problems.
Other things to note
Mobile reception can be patchy as it is in a secluded valley. You can find some signal to most networks, although you might need to go into the garden. There is wireless internet in the study which reaches most rooms.
