You will have access to the bathroom, kitchen and lounge. The garden and the agility field will be free to access. We own beach and loch frontage which you are more than welcome to use. There is a seperate studio on site which is not accessible to guests, neither are the barns.

Other things to note
Please note that we are pet friendly and this does mean we have 4 dogs. We also take in boarders so may have more animals than this. We have an enclosed back garden where dogs can run off lead. In the warmer months we have an agility field set up and dog training sessions are available.
If you are not "animal freindly" that is fine as all our dogs have their own areas and do not need to mix with guests.
There are 2 pubs on the island and a fish and chip shop that opens on a saturday. One of the pubs also serve take away or eat-in fish and chips on a Wednesday and Saturday. There are also village shops and post offices dotted around the island. Don't miss the Heritage Centre or "The Croft". The island has three lochs stocked with trout. I could tell you more but it will spoil the surprise - come and discover what else Sanday has to offer.
This is a special place and I have had some wonderful guests stay with me. Just let me know if you have any questions, I am always available to help you make the most of your stay.
I look forward to meeting you.

Hi, I'm Johanna and together with my partner Jeff we would love to welcome you to Sanday, we absolutely love living on Sanday. Although we haven't lived here long we can help you with anything you need to know to enjoy and make the most of your stay.

The highlight of your stay here has to be the island itself. So beautiful. We are nestled beside a fresh water loch and back onto a bay which is usually very calm. There is so much wildlife to see. Hundreds of seals or 'selkies' gather here for their annual moult. You can watch some of the seals from our raised decking in the garden whilst you enjoy breakfast or a evening drink. You may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an otter.
There is 5000 years of history here which includes a chambered burial chairn as well as shipwrecks and buildings from both world wars.
Our neighbourhood is dominated by sky, sea and fields. There is no industry on Sanday, only farming and fishing. You are likely to look out the window and see geese in the garden or curlews, lapwings and oystercatchers.

Our house is very private with only one close neighbour. Your bed has a comfortable orthopaedic memory foam mattress and clean crisp bedding. There are towels laid out for your convenience. If you forget anything we can provide you with most essentials.

A free breakfast is included in the price of the room. You can have a choice of porridge, cereal, toast, fresh fruit or yogurt. Or all of them if you are hungry!! You are more than welcome to use our kitchen should you decide to cook a meal or I can recommend a couple of places to eat, although being a small island there are not many places to choose from. The local pub, The Kettletoft does good food including fish and chips, eat in or takeaway twice a week. My favorite resturant is at Backaskaill Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast. Geoff cooks a wonderful meal and Jane is the perfect hostess. If you want a meal cooked with local produce and an attention to detail you won't be disappointed. I have a copy of their menu and can phone through your order for you. Alternativly, I would be more than happy to prepare a meal for you at an extra cost. Pack lunches can also be prepared for you should you want to explore the island. We can point you in the right direction of some amazing white sandy beaches.
We are a dog friendly house. We have 4 dogs of our own who after an initial bark will love you to bits. We don't place a limit on the dogs you can bring and can provide a dog blanket should you wish your pet to sleep on the bed. We also provide doggy towels should your guys decide to go for a swim.

Hi, my name is Johanna or Jo for short. Five years ago Jeff, my husband, and I decided to start over and moved to Orkney all the way from Devon. Quite a move!! Miss my family and friends but actually talk more to them now than I ever did when I was close by. I love living here, the peace, the isolation, the sense of calm. Our main love are our 4 dogs. I was a dog handler learning agility with my 7 year old collie and we were just about good enough to start competing when we moved which is a shame but I have bought some equipment and visitors are welcome to use it. We also have a 9 year old springer, a 2 year old collie and also a 6 year old collie rescue. We both enjoy the outdoors and love going for walks and watching wildlife. Can't say we are well travelled because we love Britain and see no real need to travel when there is so much to see here. I love reading and craft and Jeff likes tinkering with all things mechanical especially lister engines etc. I have been dabbling into the raw food world and trying out some raw menus. I still enjoy all types of food and love trying different foods. I am not a veggy but try to eat healthily. We enjoy a good wine and also a nice whiskey. I was a driving instructor for 25 years and Jeff was an agricultural engineer. Jeff is now one of the Sanday bus drivers and also collects the rubbish weekly and I work 4 days a week doing a variety of jobs as well as running a dog walking business.

During your stay
How much do we interact with our guests? Well, that really depends on our guests. We work from home some days so will usually be home during the day and we are both home in the evenings. We love meeting people and getting to know them. We would be thrilled if you joined us in the evenings. If required we can provide transport to and from the ferry terminal if you prefer to leave your car on the mainland.
