Set in lovely, quiet surroundings in rural South Cumbria. This home is a great place from which to visit both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. I offer one double room and one twin- bedded room and a full English or continental breakfast.

The space

This is my family home with a lovely garden and stunning views in every direction and is quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing retreat.

There is a choice of a double room or twin bedded room. The double room, with far-reaching views, has an en-suite shower and sink, whilst the twin room has exclusive use of a downstairs shower room. Both rooms share a toilet/sink room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms, toiletries and towels are provided. A small fridge is available for perishable goods. The rooms are £70 a night each. For single occupancy of the twin room the charge is £35 a night.

I can offer a choice of full English or continental breakfast with vegetarian options available. Please let me know your requirements when booking. There is a good range of local pubs and restaurants nearby, serving food all day. Something to suit every taste from fish and chips and Pizza Express to fine dining.

The house and garden are not suitable for babies and toddlers.

Guest access

In the summer months, the conservatory is a delightful space in which to eat and relax, however during the cooler months you might take advantage of the sitting room with its log burner and TV. There is plenty of space to be private should you want that. All of this is negotiable.

Interaction with guests

I am happy to spend time with you if you would like that and I can provide maps, ideas of places to visit or walk, packed lunch or be your guide on a day out if I have no other commitments (There would be a reasonable charge to cover fuel and additional food. I would also need some notice to shop for food for packed lunches)

Other things to note

I have a well-behaved boxer dog, who loves to be everyone’s friend, and for that reason, I would want to do some negotiation before welcoming other pets to my home.

My preference would be to host people who are part of a couple or a group of friends. Single women travellers would also be welcome.
Please tell me a little about your group when you make an enquiry.

Heather was very hospitable and friendly throughout our stay at her place. Her breakfast each morning was amazing which helped to start our day right. Her place was very clean and very comfortable to stay in. The area around her place was quite secluded but was very scenic and definitely worth it. She also gave good recommendations on the things to see and do in Lake District which was very helpful. Will definitely return if have the chance. Highly recommended!

No amount of praises can do this justice. For my parents and I, this is the ideal place to stay in while traveling around Lake District. Heather is a very warm and friendly host and spared no efforts into making sure that we feel welcome. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped with guides of the area along with a beautiful view of the scenery. The dog (photo included in the listing) is both boisterous but well-behaved - you'll be friends on the very same day of arrival, but you can be sure the dog will not intrude into your rooms.

Heather's house is lovely! Spotless, comfrotable and very convenient (with a car, of course). We loved playing with amber the dog and you have to eat the black pudding at Strickland Arms! Possibly the best meal of our trip (to be fair we didn't eat out much, but ita still very good by any standard)! Heather was a very gracious and generous host and we loved the short chats with her after breakfast every morning. At the same time she respected our privacy and we felt very comfortable in her home. Remember to save some of that sausage from breakfast for amber the dog!

It almost felt hard to say goodbye to an old/new friend after just two nights at Heather's place! Heather has a lovely huge place, and provided many thoughtful details (like choc bars & tea/kettle in the room and many comfy towels!). We would have been reluctant to get out of the spacious room with its lovely skylights and even some reading corners, save for it being in the beautiful Lake District! Heather describes it as being 'rural' but it was not difficult at all to find. We also loved her marvelous breakfast spread (often not needing lunch after that!) facing the green fields outside the house. Thanks Heather (and Amber) for a lovely time!

Heather's place is beautiful and she is an exceptional host. Our stay was better than what we expected and we will definitely love to go back. Her rooms were very cosy clean and comfortable definitely better than the hotels we've stayed in around the area. Heather and amber were without a doubt the highlight of our trip. Thank you heather !

This is a wonderful rural spot, accurately described and with a lovely host, who supplied thoughtful little extras. The breakfast was the best I've had from any b'n'b and Heather (host) is both warm and generous. The upstairs space for guests is attractively decorated, well kept, very clean and comfy, and the house is warm. You could easily stay for a prolonged visit. Heather has a collection of OS maps for the Lake District and surrounding area and Sizergh Castle is only a 5 minute drive away. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet space to explore the area.
