Coastal Maine farm and cottage very close to the ocean. Scenic views, less than 1 hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Great area for hiking, biking, boating, arts, etc.. Small kitchenette, private building, nice shower and bathroom.

The space

Beautiful coastal area - very good biking, hiking and kayaking. Sailing crusies on the bay are also available. Interesting and stimulating cultural events and some great places to eat and shop. The cottage is private and includes a sleeping loft, futon couch on the ground floor, small kitchenette, bathroom with hot shower, and a baby grand piano. This is a musician's perfect getaway to practice, compose, record, and delve into the music within.

Guest access

Guests have access to a kitchenette in the cottage and a full kitchen my nearby home. High speed internet, parking next to the cottage, cable TV, one kayak and one bike.

Interaction with guests

I really enjoy getting to know guests but I will also respect your privacy. I love the area and know it well. I would be very happy to show you around a bit if we can both find the time

Other things to note

There is a beautiful vista of approximately 20 miles out to the peaks of the mountains of Acadia National Park from the deck of the cottage.
The unique and internationally known Surry Concert barn is about a two minute walk from the cottage.
We plan to have a summer program of arts and other special topic events including concerts, films, theater, art exhibitions Etc.

The small cabin was quiet and on a scenic bit of land near Bar Harbor. Quirky, cool space perfect for a couple. Only small issues were that the bed crawl at the top of the cabin gets warm and the cabin itself can get a little buggy at night. A great spot if youre planning to go into Acadia the next day.

Charming little place near the coast! Place is not as private and not as big as photos might make it seem.

We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. I would return with my sons ( ages 13 and 11 ) or for a quiet get away by myself. The first day I arrived, I was able to attend a classical concert in the barn - such a special place! The boys and I were tired from travel; however, we were able to enjoy swimming in a small beach, biking along the water and lobster dinner on a small pier just a mile or so from the cottage. This is a great location if you intend to explore Acadia if you desire to get away from the chaos of Bar Harbor. We left the cottage every morning, stopped in Ellsworth for breakfast and made our way to the Acadia National Park. The drive was easy and short enough that the kids did not complain. Alan was the perfect host. He gave us as much privacy as we wanted while providing great suggestions for activities in Acadia and even the best coffee shops and ice cream shops to visit. I am looking forward to a return with my extended family. There are multiple cottages on the property which make it a perfect destination for extended family.

The Surry Arts barn was a wonderful treat for our vacation in Maine. We loved Alan's cabin and the ability to play with instruments while we recorded some songs. We loved exploring Surry and the surrounding area and hope to come back again. The cabin had a great view of of the mountains and was very quiet. We enjoyed sitting on the porch at night and relaxing under the stars. Thank you again Alan!

Disappointed that cottage was primitive space, not charming, cozy area pictured. Sleeping loft is accessible only by ladder with no safety rail, thin mattress on floor, limited space to crawl into sleeping area. Bathroom area appeared less than clean with used soap and worn towels.
