Where you’ll be

Gaißau, Salzburg, Austria

Our vacation home is located on a hill. The access only leads to our vacation home. This means there is no transit traffic and you can fully enjoy your stay. Next to the cottage is only our parent's house. From spring to late autumn, our sheep will keep you company in our fields.
So nothing stands in the way of a quiet stay.
Living in the midst of nature with a view of our mountains, but still not far away from the Mozart city of Salzburg, the Celtic city of Hallein with the salt mine and the summer toboggan run Bad Dürrnberg, or from the world's largest ice cave, the Eisriesenwelt, and the castle Hohenwerfen with its bird of prey show. Also recommended is a day trip to Hallstatt, for which we are happy to provide tips for a nice round trip from Gaißau over the Salzkammergut to Hallstatt (with tips for train or boat trips and free parking) and return over the Lammertal.
The Salzburger Seengebiet offers a variety of swimming lakes. Hintersee, Wallersee, Obertrumer See and Fuschlsee are embedded in a beautiful landscape and invite you to swim in the summer months. You can also reach the directly adjacent lakes in the Upper Austria area, such as the Mondsee Wolfgangsee, Attersee or Mattsee in no time. The numerous lakes with their beautiful bathing beaches not only invite you to relax, but also offer great water fun for all ages. For example, water skiing, tire riding, boating and a beautiful beach with slides, sand etc. await you on the Mondsee. The new trend sport "Stand up Paddle", also known as SUP, can be tried at the swimming lakes. Our professional paddle boarding trainer Alex Ebner is at your disposal for this. He gives courses for beginners and you can also borrow paddle boards from him. You will find more information in our holiday home.
In the nearest area in Faistenau there is also a forest climbing park with different levels of difficulty for young and old. For all horse lovers it is also possible to book riding lessons with trained riding instructors. So as not to neglect the fun factor, you can also visit the adventure park Straßwalchen. This can be reached in about 35 minutes. Hoppolino - an indoor playground - or climbing wall, bowling, karting and much more to do... all this can also be found in Salzburg, Hallein and the surrounding area. With us in the village you can also enjoy the landscape on an alpine hike or horse-drawn carriage ride. If you are interested in herbs, you can visit a herb garden or herb workshops, such as Cream making, visit us in town. In Adnet, our neighboring town, there is the Fit and Move loop with puzzle fun and fitness and skill park tour for all ages. For the children there is a small surprise when all tasks have been fulfilled. If you prefer to enjoy nature, there are numerous hiking trails around Gaißau for hiking or biking. Whether a family tour to the nearby Spielberg or a more challenging circular hike from the Spielbergalm over the Schmittenstein, Schlenken over the village of Gaißau back to the holiday home. Enjoy your mountain tour with the impressive backdrop of the Tennen Mountains and views of the city of Salzburg. Discover the numerous surrounding peaks such as Wieserhörndl, Eibleck der Ochsenberg, Schmittenstein, Regenspitz and many more. But not only on foot you can reach some beautiful places. You can also reach some alpine huts and start beautiful trips by mountain bike or e-bike (which can also be rented from us in the village/ an e-charging station is also available free of charge in the village). In addition to a varied hiking offer, warm hospitality and rustic hut romance await you on farmed alpine pastures. Enjoy local products such as homemade dairy and cheese products, roasts or even herbal dishes. Huts in the hiking area: Karalm, Spielbergalm, Latschenalm, Bergalm, Zillhütte etc.
From the mountain to the city - Salzburg is unique – in every respect. Once immersed in the magic of the world-famous Mozart city, you can no longer escape it. The harmonious interplay of landscape and architecture, art and culture as well as tradition and modernity in the smallest space makes up the special appeal. Immerse yourself in the world of the Salzburg Festival. Whether Easter, Pentecost or summer - the Salzburg Festival is one of the world's most important festivals of classical music and performing arts.
Every year, the free Siemens Festival Nights take place at Kapitelplatz. If you can no longer find a seat, make yourself comfortable with a blanket on the ground. A wonderful experience. Visit the Hohe Salzburg Fortress, Getreidegasse and Linzergasse, the Sebastian Cemetery, enjoy a walk to the Kapuzinerberg mountain with wonderful views of the city from above. Or take the amphibious vehicles for a spin on land and water. Discover the Salzburg Cathedral, St. Peter's or the many beautiful squares and fountains in the city of Salzburg. Three times a day (7:00/11: 00/18:00) you will hear the chimes, which you should not miss while walking through the city. A visit to the Haus der Natur with the Science Center is also worthwhile.

Salzburg is unique – and not just in summer, at festival time. Even in winter, the city enchants with its incredible charm. Especially in the Advent season, Salzburg showsoffm one of its most beautiful sides. The historic Salzburg Christmas market is one of the most beautiful and oldest Christmas markets in the world. Its unique location in the middle of the World Heritage old town of Salzburg, its traditional stalls and its long history make the Salzburg Christmas market special. With over 525 years of history, the Salzburg Christmas market on Dom and Residenzplatz is one of the oldest, most traditional and successful Advent markets in the world. The Advent markets such as Hellbrunn, St. Gilgen am Wolfgangsee, Berchtesgaden, Bergadvent in Großarl, Ebenau, etc. are also worth a visit.

In the Gaißau-Hintersee ski area, from the 2020/2021 season, the whole family can ski on 30km of slopes and sunny slopes or take a ski tour to the surrounding peaks. A leisurely tour to the Wieserhörndl or the Spielberg - ideal for beginners and those who want to try the slightly different kind of skiing fun. Directly at the valley station in Gaissau there is a ski rental, where you can rent all the equipment for a ski tour on a daily basis.
Winter hiking fun is also available in the form of a snowshoe hike! Snow crystals glitter in the sun, silence lies over a freshly snow-covered winter forest – with snowshoes on your feet, you can walk wonderfully through white and untouched landscapes! So nothing stands in the way of a snowshoe hike to so many secret spots.
