The space
Welcome to The Perch.

The Perch is completely self contained so you have full privacy to enjoy your stay.

My place is close to Turangi town centre, the world famous Tongariro River, local walk ways, great restaurants & cafes. You could use my home as a base if you plan to do the Tongariro Crossing or go up the mountain for skiing or snowboarding. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, the neighbourhood, the comfy bed, the kitchen, and the light. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and big groups. There is unlimited WIFI for you to connect with your friends and family while travelling.

There is a large fully equipped modern kitchen for you to cater for yourselves or alternatively there are cafes, restaurants and takeaways located in the main town centre (approx 2 mins drive away). There is an Island bar with bar stools for sitting and chatting while food is being prepared or there is a 6 seater dining table.

The perch has 2 large bedrooms. The master room has 1 x Queen size bed. The second room has 2 x Double beds. The Perch comfortably sleeps 6 people. The beds all have mattress and pillow protectors with fresh clean linen on the beds according to your sleeping requirements.

There is a deck off the open plan kitchen, dinning, lounge to enjoy the stunning view. There is a BBQ on the deck for you to use.

Where you’ll be

Turangi, Waikato, New Zealand

Turangi is a friendly bustling community. There are so many free activities and adventures you can go on. Visit Turangi I-site to see what's happening around town. There is an incredible walk that starts from the I-site Tongariro River Trail. It takes approx 3.5 hours for the loop walk.

Beautiful vistas of Lake Taupo, the Tongariro River and Mt Pihanga combined with pockets of gorgeous native bush and trees like matipo and rewarewa make for a diverse and interesting walk. In the summer tui are attracted to the copious kowhai trees and sometimes kereru (wood pigeon) and morepork can be spotted. Fantails and other birdlife are abundant.

The trail can be broken into two sections and starts officially at the Turangi i-SITE. As the i-SITE is open seven days a week grab a map from the i-SITE staff to assist with directions. The path leads to the Turangi Bridge Motel and people can read the mosaic artworks on the way completed by local schoolchildren, depicting the history and cultural significance of Turangi.

From the State Highway One bridge (there is a footpath on the bridge), a one hour loop can be completed to the Major Jones suspension swingbridge. This track climbs high so there are amazing views of the lake, river and Mt Pihanga.

A two and a half hour loop can be completed once at the Major Jones swingbridge to the spectacular Red Hut bridge. This trail meanders by farmland, native bush and the river with views of the Kaimanawa Ranges. Complete the loop by walking back on the recently developed trail from the Red Hut bridge.

The trail hugs State Highway One before entering beautiful kanuka and other native bush and beech forest. This track gives people the opportunity to visit the Tongariro National Trout Centre. This whole section is particularly popular with mountain bikers.

From the Turangi i-SITE, the trail can also be reached by walking under the tunnel on State Highway 1 to the Taupahi Reserve.

There are stunning eateries with quality affordable food. Check out my Guidebook for some of our favourites.

The famous Tongariro River is close by. If you love trout fishing or fishing in general this is the area for you!

The mountain is 40 minutes away, use the Perch as a base when you go out for your daytime adventures.

Most of the local eateries stop serving at 9pm so be sure to head down early.

The Tūrangi library offers free WIFI. there are several computers and you can use it for 30 minutes at a time. The speed is fast for sending and receiving emails. The library is located in 2 Ohuanga Rd Tūrangi Town Centre and is open from 9.30am till 5pm Mon -Fri, Sat 10am - 1pm, closed on Sunday's.
