Stay in your own private room in our 3 BR, 1921 Airbnb house. 3 blocks from the Boston Edison Historic district, and a few exits from downtown/ Wayne state / Woodbridge/Cass Corridor, etc. Our street is in great shape, neighbors are friendly and the location, convenient. On street and some driveway parking is available. Cleaning of public spaces provided regularly. We have 3 rooms available at this location, so if this room isn't available for you possibly one of the others is.
Guests will be staying in a private room upstairs in our 3-level house (basement, main floor, upstairs). All rooms are currently listed on Airbnb. The kitchen and living room are shared spaces. There is a laundry, extra toilet and shower in the basement.
Make yourself at home. Use the living room, kitchen and refrigerator, the laundry facilities, toilet in the basement and the upstairs full bath. Please do not try to enter any locked rooms, or bedrooms not belonging to you. Some driveway parking is available and otherwise, street parking (in front of house).
Interaction with guests
This tends to be a full house with 3-6 Airbnb guests. I might be there when you are but probably not. I am your first point of contact and I dedicate myself to guest needs, so if you have any troubles please contact me. But please be advised that i am usually in the EU and therefore 6-7 hours ahead of Detroit. We do have some people who can help out in emergencies but do not yet have a great 'emergency' system in place. For example during my night time hours it is difficult for me to help you with urgent situations, and we haven't found any neighbors yet willing to handle night-time emergencies. The most common problem is "check-in", so please be prepared with your check-in information (which is provided through the Airbnb app) and try to check in before 9pm so that someone is more likely to be able to help you if needed. In the worst case scenarios, please be prepared to wait for me to respond. I am most available before 7pm and after 2 am Detroit time.
Other things to note
Our Airbnb set-up in Detroit is still under development. We are continuously making changes - improving areas, and responding to guests comments as we are able to. I am the primary contact and make myself available all of my waking hours. We (owners) live most of the time in Europe - 6 hours ahead of Detroit but we have some assistants/contractors who can provide some assistance in emergencies. We have a cleaning person coming into the house 2-3 times a week. We try to minimize emergencies by supplying all check in information via the Airbnb app, by having you check yourself in and out, and asking that you do not check in after 9pm. Our house is old and creaky and occasionally needs repairs. :)
Quiet hours after 11pm on weeknights. And please just be considerate of others since the walls can be sort of thin.
Please return keys to lockbox upon checkout. This is really important. Thx.
Please do not leave open food or dirty dishes upstairs in your rooms. It doesn't take much to develop a mouse or bug problem so it's essential that renters understand the importance for keeping rooms free of food trash and pest delights!
Please smoke outside, and clean up your cigarette butts and bottles.
Inviting People Over: This rental is for Airbnb guests, not people we don't know or cannot verify (through Airbnb reviews and verification system). We want to maintain a comfortable environment for everyone in the house. So please refrain from inviting people over unless they are family, relatives, trusted friends or unless you have gotten permission from us. If you have temporary guests (with our permission please), they should sleep in your room, not public spaces/areas (unless you get our permission).
Please walk on the driveway when passing through, and try to avoid the grass in that case. (but of course enjoy the grass at any other time!)
Shared Kitchen: Certain things like coffee and marked cooking items are made available to all guests, but please don't eat anyone else's food without permission. Thanks! And please clean your dishes with regularity during your stay. This is not only for other guests but also to ward off rodents and pests.
General/Misc. for all Shared Spaces: Please clean up after yourself and be respectful of other guests.
Wifi/Internet: Wifi and internet is made available to all guests, but please do not use it for any illegal activities! They will very probably catch you.
Drugs: Certain types of marijuana use is legal in Michigan, but please be respectful of other guests in the house by refraining from any illegal drug anywhere in the house.
Weapons: While certain types of gun carry is legal in Michigan, please do not bring any weapons or firearms into the house during your stay. Michigan also has "stand your ground" laws in place which make it legal for people to shoot "intruders" or anyone threatening them in a public place. These can be confusing laws but it's good to be aware of the situation.
Lock Doors: If you are the last to go to bed at night, please be sure the 2 outside doors (front door and side door near kitchen) are locked, and blinds are closed before going to bed.
Breaking or Broken Things: Please let us know if you break something or if something stops working during your stay. It may be something we aren't concerned about, but if it's a clothes washer, or something which requires repairs, we need to know immediately so that further damage can be prevented.
If things are broken or damaged due to your negligence, we might need to use the security deposit. We try to avoid it but please be careful with the house, the plumbing, and appliances. Airbnb has so far been very good about protecting both guests and hosts from this type of problem (i have only had 1 incident over many years of hosting and guesting through Airbnb).
The Neighborhood: Research Detroit and be smart / pay attention to your surroundings.
Damages by non Airbnb guests: Please note that you will be held responsible for damages caused by anyone who you invite or bring into the house who is not covered by the Airbnb insurances, rental terms and conditions.
Laundry: You are welcome to use the laundry in the basement, but please clean the lint filter in the dryer each time (fire hazard), and contribute to detergent.
Please clean the lint filter in the dryer machine, (and properly dispose of any lint) before using! This is a fire issue.
Please wash your own sheets and towels during your stay: While we provide you with a clean room, sheets and towels on your arrival, it is your responsibility to wash and change your own sheets/towels during your stay. If you do wash your own sheets/towels, please do not take new/clean ones without washing your used ones right away. Otherwise we end up with a lack of clean sheets and towels. Thanks!
Thank you! We are very happy you chosen to stay with us and we will do everything possible to make your stay a nice one. :)
