Be very careful with this host. She lies and avoids taking responsibility for any problems with the accommodation. We had a maintenance man come in drunk with a knife in his hand acting erractically and we was never even told he would be coming. If safety is even a slightest prio…

Hosting for 6 years w/o a problem. Please skip the fake news account above ^ and continue reading if you want to know what happened. Yes, please be very careful prior to booking my listing. If you book a shared listing with 16 bunks (hostel-style) at $10 - 15 per night and expect to be notified whenever there is a new guest or maintenance person entering, this is not the listing for you. We maintain a group (Hidden by Airbnb) page for group notifications. If you fail to join this group or read ANY of the information related to the house, this listing is not for you. If the sight of a Black man using a knife to open the box of a new toilet evokes a fight or flight response, this is not the listing for you. I have hosted hundreds of university students from across the globe. I can count on one hand the number of guests who were racist enough to perceive danger where none exists. Tom and his buddies came to the house to drink and celebrate his 21st birthday. I don't know if they were drinking, but if the empty beer and liquor containers were any indication, I'd suspect they had. The maintenance man arrived and reportedly (By Tom's group and one other guest.) had been drinking as well. They became frightened by a Black man holding a knife (Nobody reported any threatening behavior, lunging, or waving of the knife. He was using it to open a large box.) Tom's group, possibly under the influence, became frightened and left after the maintenance guy repeatedly tried to tell them he was there at the request of my spouse, Amelia. Unfortunately, the more the maintenance man tried to explain, the more agitated Tom and his friends became. They wanted to call the police (glad they didn't. There'd be a dead maintenance guy with the way police deal with minorities.), but were convinced to call me instead by another guest. I was able to speak to that guest and calm the situation simply by telling them the maintenance man had a right to be there. I never heard directly from Tom or any member of his group despite reaching out on Airbnb. Three days later, I was contacted by Tom demanding a full refund and threatening to get the listing removed from Airbnb. He said he couldn't take my word for it that Thaddeus was our maintenance man or there to install a toilet??? Whose word could he take? Anyway, dude was simply looking for a free stay despite having a two-day stay for three people at less than $70 US total. They also discarded beer cans and pizza in the yard and on the floors. The erratic behavior reported was the maintenance guy calling for Amelia (My spouse) and telling them (Tom's group) they were being ridiculous. I think all parties involved had been drinking. The handyman was fired, not because of any threatening behavior, but because he actually showed up on the wrong day. He didn't enter with the knife. He took a knife from the kitchen to try to remove those pesky plastic straps that secure large boxes. The toilet to be installed was in the basement where Tom & his crew happened to be. He walked down asking for Amelia and still holding the knife. Then, all hell broke out in Tom's imagination. So, yes, if you find ANY of Tom's behavior reasonable. Please DO NOT BOOK my listing. We provide a kitchen and cutlery. I'd hate for any of our black or brown guests, relatives, friends, neighbors to be injured, killed, or arrested because you've never seen a minority holding a knife. Knives exist and are used for a variety of purposes, even by minorities. Don't panic unless someone is threatening you. About the listing: Basic Self clean Black neighborhood Shared rooms Students and Interns only Owned by a military veteran and current Federal government employee We hire the occasional maintenance man. We vet them to make sure they aren't criminals. We love ALL people, but call folks out on their BS. Be well & host Tom, if you dare.
