HOME HIGHLIGHTS
Great check-in experience100% of recent guests gave this home’s check-in process a 5-star rating.

A whole top floor in a big, old, beautiful Victorian house. It consists of one very large room with en suite bath, another North East oriented cozy bedroom at rear + a small, middle room/studio with a day bed, another bathroom [green] and a small kitchen. Integral to the house, it's reached by main stair [no separate entrance]. Good for everybody who appreciates mixture of old and new, enjoys a lofty feel of Mansard spaces and of course, doesn't mind - a few flights of stairs.

We spent a week at Ana's house, traveling from France to attend a conference at U Penn. The location is great, and Ana was a perfect host. Thanks again!

A charming old house with a semi-private apartment on a fourth floor walk up. You will share an entrance and some common spaces with other people who live in the building. Also, if you are driving, there is only 2 hour parking on the neighboring streets, but free open parking ava…

Response from Ana:
Just to clarify: This listing is for the whole top, fourth, floor - 3 bedrooms, two baths and a kitchenette. Since the whole floor is exclusive use there is nothing to 'share' with me or other guests save of the stairways from the third floor down to the common entrance. No other spaces. This type of top floor integral yet independent space is typically called here an 'in-laws apartment'. The name indicates closer , entrusting relationship with the occupant. Yes, there could be other people in this large period house coexisting in shorter or longer moments. Some of the guests are younger people on the longer than a week stays. Here are currently some Ph.D candidates, AirBnB guests for just short of two months, who came to work with local professors. This kind tends to have more relaxed both air about them and the view of the living environment and safety [one keeps his room door wide open]. Why his trust startles some other guests is interesting. My house is a Nothern side of a stately twin building that was designed as such [not divided through the middle as I hear from some other visitors]. So, this building consists of two houses. The other, southern side house of the building, belongs to another owner, has been cut into separate units long ago [lost almost all period details in the process] and is occupied via separate entrance by other people who live in the building. Similar twin buildings are a staple of our historic neighborhood. Parking is getting a little tighter lately with our 'inness' but my block is still no limit [and I offered to hold the space] and so is the whole Spruce street [I'm on 46th between Spruce and Pine]. A few side streets have 4 hour parking limit [Larchwood], nights and Sundays are always free and often are Saturdays as well. A bit more west there is less limit but one still needs to pay attention to signs or absence of those.

Ana's place met our needs perfectly. The space encompasses the entire top floor, so there was plenty of room for us--two adults and two children. The beds were very comfortable. Location is perfect for visiting West Philly. Ana was easy to coordinate with and very pleasant. No co…

We found Ana's a very special place. Her residence is a largely intact, well-cared for townhouse that really gives the feel of how Philadelphians would have lived in the time it was build. Beautiful stained glass in the house, stained wood and paneling that would be irreproducib…

Thank you, Michael, and thank you for giving me a chance to correct/improve on something that was an inconvenience for you; your suggestion in private feedback involving blocking of a bright outside light for the window in the big room. has been implemented. In both rooms. :)
