Our rustic river cabin is just feet from the beautiful Cacapon river. We have a huge wrap around screen porch. The beds are comfy, the kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom was completely remodeled in April of 2019. Pets are welcome to join you. We have fishing poles and 3 kayaks (available to rent), as well as a bbq grill. There are Adirondack chairs by the river bank for your enjoyment and a fire pit. This cabin is not secluded. The river parallels the road and you will hear vehicle noise.

The space
Our cabin, built in 1935, started life as a hunting cabin. It has been updated since then, including a bathroom remodel in April of 2019, but still maintains its rustic charm. The fireplace is large and provides a romantic ambience. The wrap around porch, with a porch swing and several rockers, is the perfect place to sit and watch the river.

Guest access
The cabin will be unlocked for you when you arrive. If you’d like some of our farm fresh organic eggs ($5/dozen), raw organic goats milk ($4/quart), or wildflower honey ($12/lb) let me know and I’ll put it in your fridge before you arrive.

Other things to note
The town of Wardensville, just 6 miles south of our cabin, is an adorable place to visit. The Lost River Trading Post has great coffee and baked goods, as well as lots of locally made souvenirs. The Wardensville Garden Market has fresh veggies, homemade bread and baked goods, and delicious local pork products. They also offer breakfast boxes to go. The KaKaPon Restaurant serves diner style breakfasts on the weekends and a wide variety of home cooked meals throughout the week. The best burger in WV is at Farmer's Daughter in Capon Bridge. They're open for lunch service Tuesday through Saturday.

Kerr's Market in Wardensville (on Rt 55) is a full grocery and hardware store.

The nearest boat launch is less than .5 miles south of our cabin. Turn left onto Capon Springs Road and then left after the bridge into the parking lot. That area is called Capon Lake and the water is deeper and placid there.

If you're facing the water in front of our cabin, the deeper water is to the right. At the right end (east) of the island in front of the cabin is a great fishing spot. Our fly fishing friends have great success there.

There are lots of great hiking trails surrounding us. The George Washington National Forest is just minutes away and the Tuscarora Trail is close.

The Cacapon River parallels Route 259 (a 2 lane road), so you will hear traffic noise. Our cabin doesn't sit right on the road, but this is not a secluded cabin in the woods. It is really conveniently located for a trip in to Wardensville or access to hiking areas.

My husband John and I are homesteaders in Winchester Virginia, raising goats, chickens, bees and pigs. We live in a 189 year old stone house that we are renovating. We love old homes and are always looking for places we can rehab. We love to work in our garden, improve our homestead, explore the beautiful region we live in, and hang out with our two rowdy dogs.
