Daniel is a great host, good communicator, leaves snacks for you, and his place is as described. I will say, you get what you pay for, BUT THAT ISN'T A BAD THING! I used the place for minimal living, essentially just slept there. It's easy access to many roads and within walking distance to several restaurants and lounges. The spots outside for parking were metered but I was able to park down the hill on Berkshire Avenue for free with no parking problems or security concerns. All in all a great stay if you're using it as a home base for exploration.
It was pretty much what you would expect for the price. Kinda dingy and the WiFi didn't work when we were there, but check in and out was easy, and Daniel leaves out some snacks which is very kind. The heaters also take a little while to turn on and the one in the bedroom doesn't work as well. Just FYI: you turn on the shower by pulling down on the bathtub spout right where the water comes out.
Pros: The pictures are completely accurate, unlike the listing itself, the bed is a queen and was comfortable to sleep in. There is a window air conditioner in the bedroom (not in the picture). The furniture was old but serviceable (I sank into the couch) The kitchen was well stocked (not that I used it). And the bathroom had plenty of choices in the way of shampoos and soaps. Cons: Security is lax. The door to the street never closes or locks and the only lock on the door for when you leave the room is the one on the door handle. I do not know what the crime rate is in Brookline, but I did notice that on the doors on the second floor there were additional locks. I also found out by accident (I was let into a room that was being remodeled on the same floor by mistake) that the key for the room I stayed in could be used on at least 1 other room in the building. Though there is a chain lock and steel barrel bolt on the inside of the door for when you are inside the room. Other things of note: This is a 3rd floor walk up, at the time I booked this place this fact was not mentioned in the listing. There was a scent of an odd spice or spices in the room, and I did not see an infuser anywhere in the room. I do not know if this was because of a previous guest or because of the fact that the room is located above an African supermarket. The bathroom is a bright pink (not neon but a whole lot brighter than in the picture) I was not expecting it, it surprised me, so I thought that i would mention it. Furniture not pictured: In the bedroom there is an end table, a child's dresser with mirror and a child's desk (no chair). There is also a taller dresser just outside the bedroom, in the room with the dining table. While there is a closet on the same wall as the door in the entry/living room it was filled about halfway with random junk and there were no hangers. There is a shared balcony on the floor (shared with the room that is being remodeled). At the time of my stay there was random junk and some plants on the balcony, but no furniture. There is a door lock and deadbolt on the door leading to the balcony. This is in an old building, while all the paint both on the stair and in the apartment looked fairly fresh, the stairs look very dirty and the ceiling and walls had some minor cracks on them. It's about a 15-45 minute drive to and from downtown, depending on the traffic and to and get through/across the Liberty Bridge and Liberty Tunnel. Before think about staying here check to make sure that both the bridge and tunnel do not...
