Tomomi’s place is perfectly located, but it does come with a few downsides. The airbnb is truly five minutes from Shibuya station, but it happens to be in a less crowded area of Shibuya. There’s a grocery store a block away and a lot of cheap, delicious food options. However, note that there’s a lot of construction happening in the station, which means getting your heavy suitcase to Tomomi’s place is kind of a pain! I ended up having to lug my suitcase up and down a bunch of stairs because the area where the airbnb is located is connected to Shibuya station via a large bridge that goes over what looks like a highway. There is an elevator on the train station side and a ramp on the other end of the bridge, but that information is not mentioned in any of the instructions given by the host and is hard to find on your own. The host’s instructions on how to reach the airbnb could be much improved. It took me close to an hour of lugging around my suitcase to get to the airbnb from the train station when it should have taken five minutes because the instructions were so unclear and the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps link provided didn’t work on my phone. Perhaps if you have a Japanese phone it’ll work, but I was using my iPhone on wifi, and the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps link provided was a co.jp link that wouldn’t work in my American (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps app. The airbnb is close to the station, but it’s tucked away behind a bunch of buildings in a very odd place. It requires going down what looks like a series of back alleys, which the instructions don’t make clear. Tomomi’s instructions were a series of 28 pictures of a bunch of buildings with no words of explanation, so it was hard to figure out which buildings were which, especially because some of the pictures were outdated. The place itself is decent. It has everything you would need and expect of an airbnb. Note that the inside of the building and apartment is pretty dingy and barebones, but if you’re looking for a crashpad in Shibuya, this is a good spot. If you can overcome the initial difficulty of finding the place and getting to it with heavy bags, it’s a well-located, good-value spot.
