Place to stay if you want the authentic Buffalo experience

The space
The bedroom: large space with a queen sized bed, flat screen TV with streaming options, and a desk that can easily serve as a work/study space. Central AC was installed just last year (2020) so it’ll be nice and cool, and a new furnace in 2019 (so nice and warm in the winter)! Additionally, there is a futon suitable for a 3rd person and plenty of extra pillows and blankets.

The bathroom: All of the necessities. I provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There is a stand up shower but no bathtub and you may need to crouch if you are over 6’4”.

The kitchen: there is a small kitchen table suitable for 2-3 people, a cooking bar, and pots/pans and spices available if you chose to go to a local grocery store (7 minute walk to Tops, 3 minutes to Family Dollar) and cook for yourself. Utensils, cups, wine glasses, plates, and bowls are all ready for use. The kitchen appliances are a bit old but all fully functioning (they really don’t make them like they used to!), so while they are clean, they don’t give off that sparkly gleam of stainless steel.

Front porch: very comfortable and decked out with solar lights and a ton of plants (gardening became my quarantining activity). Please note that the lower apartment is also an AirBNB, so please be respectful of the the time noise level when utilizing this space.

Where you’ll be

Buffalo, New York, United States

Allentown was placed on the U.S. Registry of Historic Places in 1980 and the buildings are all architectural gems. Frederick Law Olmsted (who designed Central Park in New York City), also designed 3 parks in Allentown, with Days Park being just around the corner. He designed Symphony Circle as part of his master plan for the City’s park system the circle is home to Kleinhans Music Hall. It is the first neighborhood directly north of downtown Buffalo and borders the theatre district as well as Elmwood Village (another trendy neighborhood in Buffalo).

Allentown is the place to be if you’re looking to experience authentic Buffalo. The Airbnb is only one block up from the main strip but the residential part is amazing clean and quiet thanks to the Allentown Association.

When you walk north to Allen Street, to the left you will find live music at Nietzsche’s, and DJ’s and dancing at Hardware Cafe and DBGB’s as well as a poutine joint and grilled cheese spot.

To the right there are endless opportunities. Mulligan’s Brick Bar your typical Irish pub, the Pink where you’ll find the diviest dive bar but awesomely weird people and the best steak sandwich in town, the Alley Cat with an amazing shot and beer special for $7, Allentown Pizza, Jim’s Steakout (Buffalo Chain), and Falley Allen (a recent implant which in my opinion doesn’t contribute to the neighborhood identity).

Keep going past Elmwood ave and that’s where you’ll probably find me. Gabriel’s gate which has the best chicken wings in the city (skip anchorbar), and across the street is Frizzy’s, my local pub and great place for bar games. Bartenders can be a bit harsh at first but tell them you’re my Airbnb guest and they’re likely to lighten up.

If you decide to keep going past Delaware you’ll find a wide array of restaurants, Colter Bay has a great selection of local beer on draft, Mexican food at Don Tequila, Ethiopian cuisine, and cafe 59 (my personal favorite lunch spot).

Allentown is also home of the Gay Pride Parade and past Franklin St. there are 3 staple LGBTQ (Q, Cathode Ray, and Funky Monkey) where there’s everything from trivia to karaoke, to dancing. If you want to dance but aren’t a fan of the crowd at Hardware or DBGB’s, everyone is welcome at Funky Monkey.

After Franklin is Main St and home of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus where you can hop on the light-rail and explore other parts of the city.
