In my defense, my listing clearly explains the guest room details, though upon her arrival Yuree told me was she had not read the description of the room or reviewed the house rules. (Really?) Was she just bumbling along, poor planning on her part, and only content with the low price of the room? (There are also photos of the Shoji screen divider on the web site). Yuree’s advance communication with me only focused on the low $55/nt (net rate), which incl. a sizable weekly discount in slow season! She had arrived with unrealistic expectations for setting up a business office in my home for 2 weeks. To be sure, the tension she mentioned were brought on by herself due to her own misunderstanding of the accommodations. And she came to “expect” breakfast –which was being offered at my sole discretion, when actually breakfast is not advertised as being included with the room! Besides offering breakfasts, fresh fruit and cookies, I also served her homemade soup one rainy night, and fixed cocktails for her and another guest one time. I was being very generous and kind to Yuree, but for the 1st 5 days she continually complained about the WiFi and insisted she had to do video calls (from her cell phone) for her job search (requiring a lot of upload strength), and frankly this technical issue was out of my control; but I showed concern and contacted the service provider and they ran tests to show that all was in order. She then exhibited resentment toward me because of the “office”/ guest room privacy situation and WiFi. She arrived home at 1 AM on the 5th night and confronted me in the kitchen late while I was (quietly) putting out breakfast for the morning. She was clearly annoyed that she had to rent an office space, and informed me that “from now on she would be working.” I felt her resentment towards me (kind of scary) but as she was my guest I politely dismissed it. Then for the next 8 days she was out of the house for 15 hours every day from 10 AM until after 1 AM; and I did not interact with at all her during those days! For clarification my guest rooms are designed for vacation or business travelers who are here for site-seeing or attending a conference in town. Her “extended rental” should have raised a flag for me, but this was a first for me; and she had not communicated her intentions in advance. There was also no issue with noise from the TV because wireless headphones are used after 11 PM. She was also dealing with a bad cold and constant cough throughout her stay, which made it difficult to engage and may have contributed to her misperception. I would not recommend her to another host for a similar experience.
