We named our property after the Aurora Borealis because we both feel it is a beautiful and mystical phenomena that we would one day love to see together.
Our hope is that you enjoy our amazing old Manor House in a peaceful rural village in Central Portugal and we cannot recommend more highly the wonderful sunny weather (about 300 days per year) and the warmth of the friendly Portuguese.

Although Mdme Gomes had never been to a listing where the guests let themselves in obtaining the keys from a key safe at the gate, it is common practice especially when the guests arrive later than we could reasonably expect to have a person wait to check them in. It is not a Hotel or a Bed and Breakfast listing after all. Unfortunately Alexandra did not read the check-in information fully enough to see that she already had the pass code for the key safe on our gates, or to understand where it is clearly written that after an agreed time there would be a self check-in requirement. Our representative in Portugal had a private emergency the following day and could not meet Alexandra until a mutually agreed time on day 3 - again this was clearly communicated to and agreed with Alexandra. The AirBnB listing regarding heating states: "Central heating or a heater in the listing". This is an AirBnB Common amenities wording which is correct for our listing as we do not have central heating but there is a 12KW log burner in the kitchen and 4 portable gas fires of varying sizes that can be moved around the house as required. I clearly explained this to Alexandra but she still felt it necessary to mention it in our review. Unfortunately Alexandra did not contact me regarding the toilet or the taps in the bathroom which all functioned correctly when we were at our house in November. I would have sent a person to repair them on the same day if she had and I will now need to investigate it with our next guests who are already checked in. I don't understand how Alexandra could only give me 1 star for communication when I answered all of her messages promptly and resolved all of the problems or concerns she told me about. The issues regarding cleanliness I will investigate further but I must say that we have always found our cleaners work to be of the highest standard. If Alexandra was expecting a cleaner every day then I'm afraid that was not offered. It also appears that Mdme Gomes and her family have left all of the gas bottles empty in the fires and have neither told us about them or left them in the Wood Stoe as requested in the house Welcome Pack.
