Nestled in its own private cove the cabin has a wonderfully remote feel while still being easily accessible to both Wolf Creek ski area and to the town of Pagosa Springs. It is the picture of a quaint little cabin in the woods. The interior is unique and cozy. There is a wood burning stove and a little nook of a loft that kids always seem to like. Behind the cabin is just national forest. There is a hiking trail (or ski trail) that begins right out the back door.
The space
Have you heard of Fred Harman? The Red Ryder comic strip? Red Ryder bb guns (as mentioned in the classic film "A Christmas Story")? He once lived in this cabin which is why it is called the Red Ryder Cabin. It is truly a unique place with a bit of a magical quality about it.
Guest access
Apart from the wood fired hot tub (no usage allowed), a tool shed outside and a storage room inside, guests have full access to the property. Fire wood is there for the guests to use only in the wood stove in the cabin (no outdoor fires please).
Other things to note
There is intentionally no wifi in the cabin and even cell phone coverage isn't good. So if you really want to getaway this is your place.
We do allow dogs in the cabin but there is an extra charge of $50/per dog and a limit of two dogs. As Airbnb doesn't provide a way of adding this extra charge we have to do it after a booking is made. We also ask those with pets to please not allow them on any of the furniture or beds. If there is evidence of pets found on the furniture or beds we assume the right to retain some of the deposit money to compensate for the extra cleaning involved.

The cabin is located in the San Juan River Village. The highway divides the village into a north and south section of which the cabin is located in the north part. The San Juan river flows through the south section and as guests of the cabin you are allowed to fish what is otherwise private water. Though the cabin is within this "village" it really doesn't feel like a neighborhood as it is in its own private cul de sac with few other dwellings around it.
