Subtle touches make this space special: sliding barn doors, open layout, radiant heat in the porcelain and bamboo floors, organic cotton towels, and organic percale sheets with both down and synthetic pillows. Enjoy the garden on sunny days and covered patio when it rains.

PLEASE NOTE: The layout, doors, and shared common space means less privacy. Great for crashing after a conference, not for honeymooners. Courteous single visitors, travel nurses, and road trippers preferred.

The space
Walking in the front door, you’ll find yourself in the largest room in the house, the living room. To the left, two open doorways lead to the kitchen, dining area, and bathroom. The main bedroom is immediately to the right when you walk into the living room, and guest room is past the couch, also to the right in the back/ north-most part of the house. Directly across the guest room on the other side of the living room is the laundry room which features a sliding patio door to the back yard. The laundry room is not heated or insulated so please close that door tightly if you open it during spring, fall, or winter. You can also access the back yard from a gate at the back of the driveway that connects the house to the garage. I am in the process of converting the garage to rentable space- this listing is helping to fund that effort.

Where you’ll be

Salem, Oregon, United States

The neighborhood (Grant) is cute and friendly, and the house is sandwiched by an elementary school and Boys and Girls Club. There’s also a church across the street that has band practice on Tuesday evenings- the music is wonderful! During the school year there is a drop off/ pick up rush twice a day but it only lasts about 15 minutes. Once in a while there is a Boys and Girls Club event that also spurs some extra traffic, but the sounds of children laughing always outweighs it. The house is within walking distance to Broadway Coffee, Barrel and Keg wine bar and tap house, Salem Cinema, Christo's Pizza, McMenamins' Brewery, Tony’s Tacos, among other local gems. Downtown proper is about a mile away and the capitol buildings and Saturday Market are a 15 minute walk. Please let me know if you need recommendations for food, beverages, or sight-seeing.

I moved to Salem in September 2016 for a promotion as a soil scientist. I love that I get to be outside and examine nature for work. For fun I practice yoga, taste and brew beer, hike, x-country ski, snowshoe, see live music, garden, and read. I'm always looking for new ways to grow and explore!

During your stay

Please let me know if there's anything I can help you with during your stay in Salem. I am familiar with plenty of great restaurants, some venues, and watering holes. Texts are the preferred way to contact me if I'm not around as I see them before Air B&B messages. Sometimes I work/recreate in areas with no cell reception so please be patient if something comes up. I expect guests to respect my weekday work schedule.
