Our traditional Somerset cottage is 400 years old with oak beams, flagstone floors, a wood -burning stove and your own private second floor space, with quiet double bedroom and spacious modern en-suite bath room, plus luxury double bed with Tempur memory foam mattress.
As our reviews show, we are very friendly and welcoming. We have had visitors from across the UK and abroad who appreciate the picturesque village of Wrington, its pubs, award-winning restaurant and country walks.

The space

Cross Cottage is thought to be the oldest dwelling in the village. It is very English, quirky, and perfect if you want to step back in time but enjoy modern comforts. Foodwise, we offer either speciality porridge or cereal, or bacon/egg rolls, plus tea and coffee. There is parking in the village - but if you're thinking of parking for the airport for more than a day or two...please don't. It is a big issue in this village and we don't want to add to any concerns. So if you're looking for cheap airport parking, please look elsewhere.

Guest access

Your own bedroom and en-suite, on a separate floor so you have complete privacy and another room to store cases, or to sit and read. We have fire alarms on all floors, CO2 alarm, fire extinguishers, blanket, first aid pack and safety ladder from your room.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as you want. There's lots to see and do around here but you might just want to unwind and we are happy to give you the space to do that or chat as much as you like. We are happy to accommodate most dietary requirements. You can also head off to the lovely Plough pub (we have ten per cent discount for guests) or book into the acclaimed Ethicurean - a walled garden and multi-award winning restaurant with stunning Mendip views.

Other things to note

A Michelin star pub, The Pony and Trap, is a 20-minute drive away. Stanton Drew's secret Neolithic standing stones, windswept beach walks, the Pier at Weston and the wilds of the Mendips are on our doorstep. We live within a 30-minute drive of Wells and Glastonbury and two hours from Devon and Cornwall. If it's shopping you want the nearest Mall is in Bristol or Cribbs Causeway or there are individual shops in Clifton village near Brunel's world-famous Victorian suspension bridge across the gorge over the River Avon. A must to visit is Clevedon's Grade I Listed Pier (built with Brunel's railway timbers) with views to Wales across the Bristol Channel which has the second highest tidal range in the world. Nearer home, there's a hairdresser's and beauty salon over the road and I can sometimes offer therapeutic massage with hot stones option (£35). The nearest gym and spa is about two miles away in four-star hotel.

We have a 12 year old daughter and would like anyone staying to respect our peaceful home. We have two quiet gentle whippets and a cat. It's a 400-year-old Grade II Listed - so no smoking - with all the oak beams we need to be vigilant and we want to take care of our guests. We can be flexible about arrival times - say if you have a wedding etc and need to change and same with leaving but on the whole we'd like to keep to those stated. There isn't a TV in your space but if you need a fix you're very welcome to watch ours.

This is the second time that I have stayed with Melanie and Tom. They are both really lovely hosts making you feel very welcome in their quaint old cottage. Bed is very comfortable and the ensuite shower is a blessing. Tea, coffee and choccy biscuits are in your room any time you fancy a quick cuppa.

Melanie and Tom are both very lovely hosts. Very genuine and make you feel relaxed and welcome. The accommodation is a quirky old cottage which is very homely. The bedroom is in the loft area with its own ensuite shower. There is plenty of choice of hot drinks and chocccie biscuits. Quite room with a comfy bed. I was attending a workshop at Warm Glass in Wrington. So it is literally a 15 minute walk away. The airport is only a 10 minute taxi drive or a 20 minute bus ride away with roughly hourly buses throughout the day (A2 bus) Lovely little quaint village with a couple of pubs and also a walled garden with a high glass restaurant nearby. I will be staying again next time I am down this way.

Lovely refurbished old house with many features. Luxury bed and bathroom all cotton sheets! Tea and coffee provided. Sadly Tom was away but Melanie is an intelligent hostess - we enjoyed her company. Thoroughly recommend.

I stayed only one night at Tom and Melanie's place before flying back to France. The village is very charming and the beautiful and historic cottage is very well situated (beautiful countryside and proximity to Bristol). I received a very warm welcome, Melanie and Tom are charming and interesting hosts who have a sense of hospitality. The cottage has much character and a lovely "ambiance". Ther's lots of space for guests upstairs to sit, read and relax, the room is very comfortable, the shower is fantastic. I had a wonderful evening chatting with Melanie and Tom at the nearby pub. Everything was just perfect. Thank you!

A peaceful and calm space at the top of this beautiful old house with a cosy but light and airy feel and a good view through the window. I had the warmest welcome from Tom and Melanie who made me feel like one of the family. The bed is really comfortable, the shower is excellent and there is an area to sit and work or read if you want to. There were fresh sweet peas in a vase, fluffy towels and a robe to use. Lots of lovely books to read or look at. Kettle, tea, coffee and milk are in the room but I was also encouraged to use the kitchen for tea or making a meal. Tom made me wonderful breakfasts each morning and nothing was too much trouble. It provided me with a safe haven at the end of a long day, with some good easy company if I wanted it, or some study time alone upstairs when I needed it. Perfect in every way, I can't think of anything I would change. Communication before the stay was spot on and straightforward. I stayed 5 nights and hope to go back one day. A real gem of a place.

It was an absolute pleasure spending time with them :) The weekend was a pleasure, thank you for welcoming us into your family home. Enjoy all of your upcoming adventures!

We both work from home so able to give you a warm welcome and act as insider-guides to beautiful Somerset. We have a 13-year-old daughter, gentle whippet and docile 13-year-old cat. Plus lots of books. You even have your own floor and a reading/relaxing room. There's amazing places to visit: beautiful Mendip walks and wonderful old country pubs including The Plough which is a two minute walk away, with local Butcome beer, Thatcher's cider, and fantastic cooked-from-scratch food. You get 10 per cent off your meal staying with us but please always book ahead it's incredibly popular. Then there's the multi-award winning Ethicurean Restaurant ( )set in a Victorian walled garden. It scooped the Observer Ethical Restaurant of the Year and is a 10-minute stroll away. Some people stay with us just to visit this gorgeous place. Tom is a writer who also plays in bands so there's a few guitars and an accordian around the cottage. We may be near the airport but not under the flight path, so you'll sleep peacefully - especially on the £1,200 luxury Tempur mattress. Your accommodation is completely separate on your own second floor, with a sitting/reading room attached. Your bedroom has a luxury, modern en-suite shower room.
This area is one of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Black Down, Burrington Ham and world-famous Cheddar Gorge nearby. If you love walks with sea views, wild horses, caves and climbing, it's all on our doorstep. If you crave the city we are a 15 minute drive from Bristol, 45 minutes from Bath and 20 minutes from beautiful Wells with it's 10th Century cathedral and medieval street ( The Huntsman was filmed here and classic Gothic cop comedy, Hot Fuzz).
We love reading, listening and conversations but are equally happy to give our guests space to breathe. We know the importance of a spotless cleanliness, soft white towels and goodies to use. Breakfast is included and we are happy to cater for omnivores, veggies and vegans or dairy and gluten-free. For those arriving in the dark - or simply (like me) need exact directions, once you are in Wrington, park as near to the main High street as possible, by Amors or Buglers shops (there aren't many). We are almost opposite Amors' side window and next to the art gallery. Cross Cottage is on a plaque.

We are afraid we cannot offer airport parking. This is a small village with limited space for residents and no allocated parking.
