Villa Chandra is our third villa at the Surya Kembar site. "Chandra," or moon, as we have called this villa reflects the cool, relaxed atmosphere and location of this luxurious 3-bedroom villa. Perhaps one of the most stunning features of the villa is the private, 12 meter, natural stone infinity pool overlooking a beautiful valley of rice fields. Similar to the other villas I have built, villa Chandra is made from recycled hard wood materials, including old ships and boats that I found in Java.
The villa offers 3 bedrooms, two of which are master bedrooms with a king size bed. The other bedroom offers two twin beds (or can also be made into a kingsize bedroom). All bedrooms have their own private bathroom, sofa, large wardrobe, air conditioner, fan, satellite TV, Bose ipod dock, and WIFI access (one room offers a safety deposit box).
Our full equipped kitchen includes all appliances (oven, stove, toaster oven, juicer, blender, utensils, cutlery, glassware, plates, refrigerator, -- no microwave). We also provide free mineral water.
The living room is in an open air setting, and offers handcrafted tables, furniture, and very large and comfortable L-sofa.
The villa is located amongst rice paddies on a village road in a quiet setting, yet is only a few minutes drive from the cultural center of Ubud. You can also take your time and walk into town to really get a sense of the area and the daily life of the Balinese. The villa's position to the south of Ubud makes it easy to take day trips to the beaches in Sanur, Seminyak, or Kuta without any of the traffic of town. Each day the local priest’s wife places offerings in and around the property to bring a good spirit and great smells to the area. The local banjar (community meeting place) is just a short walk down the road, and one can sometimes hear the faint sounds of the village gamelan practicing as the sun sets. It is magical! Many of my family and friends are mask-makers, wood carvers, musicians and dancers, and I am happy to introduce those wishing to learn some of the Balinese arts.
The property shares a parking area and fully trained team staff with three other villas on site. The price includes daily maid service, linens and towels, wireless internet, cable television, and daily breakfast.
Airport transfer, driver to other attractions, massage, private yoga classes, traditional Balinese meals (made by the most renowned cook in the village, my mom!), laundry, rental cellphone, rental motorbike, and babysitting can be arranged for an additional fee.
Babycots/cribs and car seats also available for no charge.
Being Balinese myself, I am always open to speak with guests about Bali's rich culture and religion, and can offer tips about unique things to see and do. The Ubud area offers a number of great performances, the monkey forest, and exquisite temples, and I am happy to inform guests of authentic ceremonies and celebrations happening during their stay.
Please send us any inquiries you may have. We are happy to cater to all guests' needs in order to make your stay in Bali truly remarkable.
Low season price is $300 per night with a minumum stay of 2 nights.
High Season (December 15-January 15; July and August) is $350 per night with a minimum stay of 3 nights.
If you know you will stay for a week or more, I am open to negotiating the price :)
Thanks, Matur Suksama -Oka

Guests staying in the villa are expected to treat the villa as if it were their own. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by adults. Since the villa is located in a small, quiet village, it is expected that guests will be respectful of their Balinese neighbors who have small children. Any damage will be assessed and may potentially lead to a guest losing part or all of their security deposit. Upon check-in be prepared to show your passport so that we may register you as a guest. Cheers!
Superb! Beautiful place, beautiful people. All six of us would go back tomorrow if we could. The attention to detail is amazing. Best kept secret in Ubud. Only 5 minutes to the center of town, and cars always available to take you to your destination. Elegant, clean and relaxed and completely I. Keeping with the spirit of Ubud. We loved getting to know Oka, his family and lovely staff.
We stayed at Villa Chandra for 3 nights and loved it!
We were welcomed with a drink and the nice receptionist Susann explained everything to us.
The Villa was just like in the picures. The wooden and stone features were very impressive. The floor was very smooth so it was comfortable to walk on it bearfoot the whole time. The rooms had a lot of space, the a/c worked just fine and the staff cleaned the place every day when we were out doing trips or errands. It was quite comfortable to have our own taxi driver around the whole time for a small extra charge. We could call him with a phone he gave us anytime to get picked up from anywhere we wanted.
All in all we definitely recommend the Villas at Surya Kembar and would come back in a blink of an eye!
The host at Villa Chandra ensured we had every thing we needed from the second we arrived. The house was beautiful, clean, and well kept. The staff really made us feel welcomed and comfortable, they were so kind and hospitable. Villa Chandra is an amazing place to stay for those looking to have a great and relaxing time in Ubud!
Superbe Villa ! Service et Personnel irréprochables ! Situation idéale ! Magnifique vacances !
Our party of five (2 couples & 1 single) were blown away on how lovely Villa Chandra was. We were fussed over by the staff and since we were Kiwi's were a bit uncomfortable with it - but we got used to it!
The villa - beautiful and makes the most of the cool breezes.
The bedrooms - spacious with a lovely bathroom.
The pool - perfect for hanging out in on a hot day.
The area - it was nice to be outside of Ubud and easy to get there when we wanted - thank you to Made, he was a great driver!
In-house dinner - DO IT - it was the best Indonesian food we had the whole trip - so YUM we did it the next night!
The hostesses - such lovely girls and although it was all part of the villa service we felt really spoilt - they are a credit to the business.
Oka, we look forward to maybe staying there another time - it will be different with the new buildings but I am sure it will retain it's peaceful and serene environment.
All the best - Debbie
What a special home! I call it home because it really felt like living in a home. The villa was lovely, managed by a very creative manager, Oka, and his team of delightful staff. For a truly rustic experience in a quaint village of Ubud, choose this place for your stay.
- Hospitality and warmth of Oka and his staff
- Beautiful designed villa with a sense of openness and peace about it
- Stunning location, close enough to the city but tucked away in a gorgeous village
- DELICIOUS gourmet quality Balinese food if you choose to have food cooked in the villa - strongly recommended! It really felt like a celebration eating at the villa, it was fingerlickingly good.
- If you are travelling with a baby, this is a perfect place as the staff are so great with kids, we left our 7 month baby boy in the care of Oka's staff several times and he used to crackle up with excitement and delight when greeted by a few of them!
- Oka shared some fabulous restaurant recommendations with us, ensuring that we had a great dining experience the few times we were able to step out without our baby and we felt comforted leaving our baby in the hands of his caring staff
- Free mineral water was a big bonus with a small baby
- I am a bit of a stickler for cleanliness and I found the kitchen area and utensils not as spick and span as I would like it to be, found myself scrubbing a few times before cooking meals for our baby. Oka - think this can be easily fixed with some feedback to the staff and I would also recommend wet mopping the floor with some disinfectant everyday to reduce the dust/ants
- We didn't really travel out much but one day we went to the city (10 mins away) for lunch and walked around for 2-3 hours on Monkey Forest Rd while the driver waited for us. We were charged the price of a half day tour at 35 USD for this trip. A trip in to the city and back costs 10 USD, it was my mistake that I didn't bother enquiring ahead what it would cost to keep the car waiting for a few hours so I accepted the charge but I was definitely taken aback by the amount, Had I enquired upfront, I may have chosen to be dropped one way and then taken a taxi back if I realised that it will cost 25 USD for the car to wait for a few hours.
These are minor points though in the overall experience, which was exceptional! I will be looking forward to coming back and staying with Oka and his wonderful team again!!

About the Host, Ida Bagus Oka
Hi! My name is Oka and I am a villa designer and artist from Bali, Indonesia. For many years I travelled around America and the Carribean working on cruise ships, but now I have settled back home in Bali with my wife Dayu and my son Gustu. As a young boy I was a woodcarver and pottery designer and have since combined my interests in art and hospitality to design unique villas around Bali. My family is also of the Brahman, priestly caste in Bali, and I grew up learning about all of the unique and intricate aspects of Balinese culture, religion, and art from my father. In addition to being passionate about creating unique villas and art, I am also passionate about sharing information about my home-- the island of the gods-- Bali. I was once hired to do a Canadian National Geographic-like program called Departure indonesia season 3- Ring of fire and Departure indonesia season 3- A home away. You can look me up in these films!
I can't wait to share with you! -Oka
