West Philly Big House living.
The four story Victorian residence with its original layout, numerous period details, antiques and collectibles still provides a fair glimpse into the life of bygone eras.
Overall ambiance is harmonized with oriental and modern pieces while the amenities are, of course, modern [and, of course, there is WiFi throughout].

The house is located in the University City, close to 'everything West Philadelphia'.

Excellent public transit connections.

Ana was very accommodating by providing an even earlier check in time. Can't thank her enough for her hospitality.

Ana was a very welcoming hostess. The home was beautiful. The location was perfect for us. We were startled when told there were no locks to our room doors. The rooms were very dusty and needed a good cleaning. Our private bath was actually our hostess’s bathroom. She didn’t use…

Response from Ana:
It is good to look carefully and read everything before booking so that expectations match offerings and surprises are minnimized. I do not promise locks on the doors [there is a specific option for that and mine are left unchecked]. Some rooms have simple bolts and/or hooks, relics from my dogs time. Your bathroom has a hook and eye and the middle room a bolt. Every time you slammed your door following it with the bolting I was reminded how infelicitous this hotelling of the two of you - oh, wait, speaking about accuracy, you actually were three, never bothered to 'inform' me of the booking discrepancy. That is due in my house, maybe not in the hotel. In addition to having good perspective, being kind and polite is the currency in this business of home staying that way making up for the low rates we offer. The bathrooms are all mine, the master bath being one of the two I use most [considering that my office/living room is next to it] but my own toiletries were all with me. Everything in that bathroom, and yes, there is a lot offered, is actually for guests' use [people come from all over the world with limited 'stuff' they could take], including the whole bottom area of the closet filled with cleaning products at least three of which are stone cleaning/preserving and are very regularly used on those 100+ years old unhoned marble hexagonal tiles, well known among old house owners and restorers for their [alas!] 'dirty look' which only professional marble restoration might* sparkle somewhat at the cost that the current listing rates certainly do not support [although we happen to be in the process of collecting bids for it]. So, yes, let's talk patina. Their look is a part of this old house patina and so is what you see as dust on the luster free light fixtures, woodwork and furniture. By choice. Way too many times I wished that would be something better recognized by more people. There are few who know it very well, though. The person who helps clean my spaces is an excellent cleaner and I go with and after her, in addition, of course. Your quarters were well cleaned but it is a big space and something could be missed; definitely not at the level I hear of here. Oh, yes, when you decided to move the bed a foot from the wall there was some dust/dirt behind which we cleaned out. That is a fact of life in my book. We have window unit type AC that comes onto the windows at some point - when the heating season starts; the night you arrived [73F going down to 61, was the first hot day mid day but on the second floor northern oriented space could be all right] it was a turning point; had I known you wanted it to sit on the window [and I asked everyone who didn't have ACs yet if they needed it that evening] it would have been on in no time since they sit in the rooms/closets - ready. Every room had AC the next day when they surely were needed. Importantly, I reiterate, this house has a lot of patina. Actually, lots and lots of patina. The natural processes that age materials are left visible here. Excessive washing [especially with harsh agents] neither unwrinkle nor make new. I'll emphasize this even more in the description and* added pictures for introduction/recognition. Recognizing, understanding and, ideally, accepting the exposed natural aging of materials here [stone, porcelain, marble and encaustic tiles, metal, various uncommon wood, even oriental carpets] would work better for all, in my view and in my house, instead of offering to 'bring own cleaning supplies'. I am available to demonstrate how patinated spots/areas stay exactly the same after being wiped cleaned. 'Scrubbing' though would destroy both patina and materials.

Ana was very friendly, and very welcoming. The house is a beautiful old West Philly classic. She met us, showed us the space, and offered some guide books. Everything was very good. I would recommend this space.

Very fun place, eclectic and interesting and serious thought have gone into the space. Only complaint I have is that it was very cold the second night. I also wish I could have locked my room's door, not just the front door to the house itself.

Ana's home feels like a trip to your grandparents' house, except with all the accommodations to get your work done. All the local West Philly food is as good as you've heard.
