Step out of the fast lane, and into a peaceful getaway: Doubling Point Cottage is a quiet and cozy place to get away from it all, yet is still in the heart of a community and the beauty and culture of Midcoast Maine.

The space

Relax in one of two bedrooms (one full, one queen) or a cozy living room. Cook and share a fabulous farmer's market dinner in the fully-stocked kitchen with friends. Sip a mug of locally-roasted coffee on the sun porch, and enjoy the deck and private fire pit after a long day at the beach. Enjoy classic architectural details and an updated bathroom. Furnishing and decor is simple, functional, and inviting.

Doubling Point Cottage would make a charming getaway for a couple looking for a romantic spot on the Midcoast, a comfortable vacation cottage for a small family, or a quiet home-away-from-home for a short-term contractor.

The home was built in 1920 right behind one of the most productive shipyards in the nation - it was probably built by a ship's carpenter, and is very modest while retaining many interesting architectural features. There are some odd quirks - a fairly steep staircase, tight hallways, and a bedroom door threshold right at the top of the stairs - but we find those elements charming and authentic, and we hope you do too! However, the steep staircase and tight hallways may not be accessible for every body. Both bedrooms and the only bath are on the second floor.

Interaction with guests

We try to greet each guest as they arrive, so we ask for a range of expected arrival time in advance. It doesn't always work out though, so in the event that we can't meet you, we will be sure to give you good directions so you can find your way in and get settled!

We welcome guests of all types and stripes.

Other things to note

The cottage blog and more information is available through an easy internet search of the cottage name.

We are just a regular (busy!) family with a small kid, who really enjoy sharing a bit of our modest lives and hometown with travelers. This may mean that we haven't achieved hotel-level perfection or standardization... But we do our best to make everything comfortable and inviting!

This is a historic house- a steep staircase and tight hallways may not be accessible for every body. Both bedrooms and the only bath are on the second floor.

We look forward to hosting guests who make themselves at home, and leave the cottage as they found it. This includes washing dishes, putting items back where they came from, and cleaning up after any fun.

We also ask that guests text or email with their expected arrival time in advance (a one/two-hour range is fine), and then let us know when they leave (or an expected departure time).

Finally, please let us know if anything is broken, missing, or malfunctioning, so we may address it for the comfort of you or future guests. Thanks!

what a great pleasure it has been staying in Colette's house. It has the charm of a historic home and yet it is thoughtfully renovated, warm, clean....just a great place to be and explore the many attractions of the area. A wonderful stay - certainly not the last one.

This place was much cuter and comfortable than we had expected. It was extremely clean and set up with plenty of towels, fresh linens, toiletries, and even fresh milk and snacks. Destie was very responsive and we had no trouble getting in and out of the house. The neighborhood was really cute and close to all we needed to get to in Bath.

My partner and I are a couple of transplants to the Maine coast, and while we hate to leave our own beautiful community, we love to explore other people's beautiful communities! Our interests include growing, cooking, and eating great food; wooden boats; walking downtown for coffee; historic architecture; enjoying our work, which includes being a stay-at-home dad to a fun 6-year-old and being a social justice non-profit manager; and walking for long hours in new places, stopping frequently to eat ice cream and watch the world go by.
