Little Gate House is located right in The New Forest a short drive up a forest gravel track positioned in the corner of our 3 ½ acre grounds providing visitors with a high degree of peace and quiet.

The site once formed part of Ibsley RAF base during World War II and Little Gate House was one of the original maycrete buildings. The block of stables that you look out onto is the old latrine block and a couple of Stanton air raid shelters are in the paddock.

Literally to the rear of the cabin the other side of our boundary fence is the open New Forest providing a whopping 140,000 acres of stunning landscape to explore. Horse riders frequently go by as well as wildlife such as the New Forest ponies, cattle, donkeys, deer, foxes, badgers and an abundance of birds such as owls, woodpeckers and buzzards which are often seen circling above the trees during the summer months.

Well designed, the Little Gate House provides a compact yet light and airy space. Inside the heated and fully insulated bespoke cabin, you'll find all the comforts you would expect from luxury self-catering accommodation. Living room open plan with fully equipped kitchen/dining area with full height ceilings, a wood-burning stove and electric radiator, double French doors opening onto a large area of south-facing decked balcony. Cosy bijou double bedroom with an electric radiator and full height built-in wardrobe and extra storage space above the bed useful for storing bags etc. En-suite bathroom with over-bath shower, basin, electric ladder radiator and toilet. Wooden floors throughout. Many guests have described Little Gate House as being "Small, but perfectly formed and equipped with everything you need". Enclosed private garden to the side of the cabin ideal for your dog to stretch their legs!

Although guests have the convenience of access straight onto the New Forest, there is also quick and easy access to all main roads for visitors to explore the many villages, towns, cities and beaches that Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire have to offer.

Riding stables 10 min drive, watersports/fishing 2 miles, award-winning 'Hockey's Farm' shop and café 10 min walk, the lovely 'Royal Oak' thatched pub and restaurant 20 min walk, 'The Potting Shed' café at Hyde 20 min walk (highly recommend - closed on Mondays). Ringwood (with a Waitrose, Lidl and Sainsbury's) 5 miles and Fordingbridge (with a Co-op and Tesco Express) 2.5 miles.
Please see 'Getting Around' section for walking directions to local farm shop, pub and cafe.

The New Forest is a former royal hunting ground in the south of England. It was created in 1079 by William I (known as William the Conqueror) as a hunting area, principally deer. Nearly 1000 years later the ancient landscape of his ‘Nova Foresta’ remains almost unchanged and in March 2005 was designated the 8th National Park in England. It is an outstanding recreational area for walking, cycling and riding.
North Gorley is a hamlet in the New Forest National Park. Its nearest town is Fordingbridge, which lies approximately 2 miles north of the hamlet. North Gorley is very quiet and has narrow country lanes which we share with ponies, donkeys, cattle, deer, horse riders etc. North Gorley has one inn, The Royal Oak, which claims to be a former Royal hunting lodge and is a 5 minute drive or a 15/20 minute walk and serves great food.
Guests can also walk to the award-winning café and farm shop 'Hockeys Farm' which is approx. half a mile away in South Gorley . They serve an all day cooked breakfast and also provide a bike hire service.
It's a 5 minute drive to the A338 which gives access north to Fordingbridge and the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury, and south to Ringwood and the A31 east to Southampton and west to Bournemouth and Poole. It's a 25 minute drive to the South Coast's beautiful beaches.
The New Forest is known as a lovely tourist honey pot, but there is a big local secret: the north west quarter is quiet and remote. This is the 'proper' Forest with lovely quiet countryside, animals galore, and even on a bank holiday weekend you can still walk for miles without meeting another person. However, The tourist towns and villages such as Burley, Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Lymington are all easily accessible and well worth a visit. Our favourite is Lymington which is a beautiful 35/40 minute drive through The New Forest going through Burley. Beaulieu is also very quaint and picturesque with an Abbey and there's a lovely walk from Beaulieu village centre to Bucklers Hard.

I would love to share our beautiful tranquil corner of The New Forest with you. You can unwind and disconnect from the busy outside world and reconnect with nature and the countryside. Our listings are self contained and private for your own personal use and you check yourselves in so really are left to it! You’re more likely to meet a wild pony than another human being! However, I am on hand and close by if you need me at all and we have a couple of great cafes, an award winning farm shop and a lovely thatched local pub all within walking distance.
I have very high cleaning standards and do a deep thorough clean between each reservation.
I look forward to welcoming you!

During your stay

I like to give my guests space. I communicate before and after their arrival via email or text to make sure they have all the info they need and to see if they are happy and settled in ok. If we see our guests outside we will pop over to say hi and introduce ourselves (if we sense that our guests want this interaction) but we don’t come knocking on doors.
