The space
It takes about 5 - 7 minutes after you step out of the door of your apartment to get to historic Bay Street. Once on Bay Street, take a left (about a three minute walk) and there's a small plaza which houses KFC/Pizza Hut, Burger King, a pharmacy, liquor store and a beauty shop and gym upstairs. Just a stone's throw away is a small food trailer where native breakfasts is sold from around 7 - 11 am Monday to Friday, and just a few steps from there is Shell Service Station where most convenient foods can be purchased. Just across from all these is picturesque Saunders Beach. You can also take a scenic bus ride to the beautiful Bahamar Hotel. Taking a right at Ferguson Road would take you to historic Downtown, Nassau. Buses will take you on and let you off right at the corner. (Please be careful when crossing street to catch bus going downtown. Buses 10 & 12 travel this route). The pink building directly across the street from Ferguson Road is a Renal Clinic. Between Ferguson Road and downtown you'll find Rubis service station which has a limited supply of snacks, a liquor store, barber shop in rear of building, . "Bahama Grill - a native restaurant, the World Famous Fish Fry at Arawak Cay to the seaside and just across from the Fish Fry a native fruit stall and historic Fort Charlotte. In this vicinity also is the Ardastra Gardens (a mini zoo).

Location

Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas

This must be one of the most quiet neighbourhoods in New Providence. My family have been resident here since 1971 and there are only two families who have been living on our street longer than we. You'll find the neighbours to be quite hospitable.

I am a 76 year old retiree who worked for one of the leading oil companies for 30 years. My three sons and three daughters have given me three grandsons and four granddaughters. I was widowed in 2016; one of my sons followed his dad in 2017 and another in February of this year. I love to sing, well singing in general, and am very active in my local church music ministry as well as in other choral groups. The capital letters in the name ELM's Hideaway represent my name "Emerald"; my late husband's name "Lealand" and the name of my late son "Marvin". I enjoy preparing meals for my family which include the most delicious home-made bread ever!
