Looking for a socially distant vacation? Whole house rental with 1/3 acre fenced yard. Rustic with plenty of creature comforts--and plenty of creatures. 3 BR, 1 BA, eat in kitchen. 20 mins to Flat Lick Falls, 40 mins to London, 45 mins to Red River Gorge. This is a working farm! Pet friendly. Internet- 30+mbps wifi, and up to 50mbps. NOTE: due to Airbnb's increased COVID cleaning protocols, the min stay is 2 nights. Please message me with how many bedrooms you will need, and if bringing pets.

The space
We're still fairly new in the B&B world, so in time we'll be able to offer more furnishings to the farmhouse and amenities. The house is nearly one-hundred years old with lots of charm. Most of the floors are hardwood. Currently 1 vacant bedroom is undergoing structural renovations. It sits on a fenced 1/3 acre parcel. Pet friendly--please let us know in advance if you are bringing dogs, and supervise your pet(s) because we have livestock guardian dogs. Off street parking right next to the house. High-speed internet available - up to 50mbps.
Some hiking trails on 60 heavily wooded acres --nature lovers delight! Lots of wildlife on the property: deer, turkeys, migratory birds, small game, creek fish. Daniel Boone National Forest is 30 mins away with lots of trails.
Our property is 100 acres, 40 is primarily hay fields. We have poultry, dairy goats, sheep, horses, a pig, and lots of dogs. During the summer we harvest hay usually twice. Daily chores include cleaning stalls/coops, milking goats, and caring for close to 300 animals that call our farm home. Cheesemaking takes place in the main house usually 1-2 times a week for anyone interested in learning. If you wish to participate in barn chores or have a tour, masks are at your discretion.
We have recently installed dedicated internet to the farmhouse.
Jackson County is a DRY county- that means no alcohol sales. But most of the surrounding counties have liquor sales.

PLEASE do yourself a favor: this house sits in something of a GPS "Black Hole" and can be difficult to get to. Directions have been provided on this site. Recommend you print them out and use them in conjunction with GPS-and if GPS tells you to deviate from any of the listed roads- ignore it! It is VERY easy to get lost out here.

Where you’ll be

Big Barn Road is a pretty quiet place. We have a few neighbors, but everyone is friendly and neighborly. The house sits among our barnyard, so it's not uncommon to hear chickens, ducks, turkeys, horses, goats, and tractor noise (minimal). During hunting season you might hear the occasional gunfire- hey, it's the country!

Hubby and I are retired military. We wanted peace and quiet so we moved to the middle of nowhere. Our farm is 100 acres of mostly wild and wooly. We harvest hay during the summer (if it's not raining!). We breed heritage poultry, have horses, goats, dogs, and an opinionated Potbelly pig named Sherman. I am also an author of 16 novels and make artisan cheeses. I like to stay busy, but farming doesn't pay all the bills so we decided to B&B our quaint old farmhouse on the property. Я говорю немного русский-- but still learning! As a full-time farmer I don't get to travel much, but I love to hear stories of your side of the globe. I'd love to host foreign travelers and get to see the world through your eyes.

During your stay

We're pretty easy-going here. If you want to be left alone, just say so. Otherwise, we're happy to interact and answer questions about our farm and food production. If you want to help with chores- cool! We love help! Just be prepared to get dirty. We do ask that one of us be present if you want to venture into the barnyard. The vast majority of our animals are quite friendly, but a few are not. So we want to make sure everyone has a fun, safe time when around the animals.
